Job Title: VDI (Virtual Desktop Infrastructure) Engineer

Department: Productivity Services Engineering
Location: Remote / Hybrid

Reports To: Head of Productivity Services Engineering

Position Overview:

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Senior VDI Engineer to join our IT Infrastructure team. The ideal candidate will be responsible for designing, implementing, and managing our enterprise Virtual Desktop Infrastructure (VDI) solutions. This role will focus on ensuring the stability, security, and scalability of our VDI environment to meet the needs of our dynamic and growing organization.

Key Responsibilities:

VDI Design and Architecture:
• Lead the design, architecture, and deployment of VDI solutions, primarily using technologies such as VMware Horizon, Citrix Virtual Apps and Desktops, or Microsoft Azure Virtual Desktop (AVD).
• Develop and maintain VDI architecture standards, ensuring alignment with business objectives and best practices.
Implementation and Management:
• Oversee the installation, configuration, and maintenance of VDI environments, including servers, storage, networking, and virtual machines.
• Manage and optimize the performance of the VDI infrastructure, ensuring high availability and reliability with terraform.
Security and Compliance:
• Implement and enforce security best practices within the VDI environment, including endpoint protection, access controls, and data encryption.
• Ensure compliance with relevant regulations and standards (e.g., GDPR, HIPAA) within the VDI infrastructure.
Monitoring and Troubleshooting:
• Monitor VDI performance and user experience, proactively identifying and resolving issues to maintain optimal functionality.
• Provide advanced troubleshooting for complex VDI issues and work closely with other IT teams to resolve incidents in a timely manner.
Capacity Planning and Optimization:
• Conduct capacity planning and forecasting to ensure the VDI environment can scale to meet future demands.
• Optimize resource utilization across the VDI environment to improve efficiency and reduce costs.

User Support and Training:
• Collaborate with the IT support team to provide Level 3 support for VDI-related issues.
• Develop and deliver training programs for IT staff and end-users on VDI best practices and usage.
Documentation and Reporting:
• Maintain comprehensive documentation of VDI configurations, processes, and procedures.
• Generate regular reports on VDI performance, utilization, and issues for senior management.
Project Leadership:
• Lead VDI-related projects, including upgrades, migrations, and new deployments, from planning through execution and post-implementation review.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams and vendors to ensure successful project delivery.

Required Qualifications:

Education:
• Bachelor's degree in computer science, Information Technology, or a related field. Equivalent experience may be considered.
Experience:
• Minimum of 5-10 years of experience in IT infrastructure, with at least 5 years focused on VDI engineering and administration.
• Proven experience with VDI technologies such as VMware Horizon, Citrix Virtual Apps and Desktops, Microsoft Azure Virtual Desktop, or similar platforms.
• Hands-on experience with hypervisors (e.g., VMware vSphere, Microsoft Hyper-V) and related technologies.
Skills:
• Strong understanding of networking, storage, and server infrastructure as it relates to VDI.
• Proficiency in scripting and automation (e.g., PowerShell, Python) for VDI management.
• In-depth knowledge of Windows and Linux operating systems in a virtualized environment.
• Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills with the ability to troubleshoot complex issues.
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to explain technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders.
Certifications:
• Relevant certifications such as VMware Certified Professional (VCP), Citrix Certified Professional, Azure Virtual Desktop - Virtualization (CCP-V), or Microsoft Certified: Azure Administrator Associate are highly desirable.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Experience with cloud-based VDI solutions and hybrid VDI environment
• Familiarity with desktop management tools such as Microsoft Endpoint Manager (Intune) or Citrix Workspace.
• Experience in a regulated industry (e.g., healthcare, finance) with stringent compliance requirements.

Experience with terraform

Compensation:

Our compensation reflects the cost of labor across several U.S. geographic markets. The base pay for this position ranges from $101,600/year in our lowest geographic market up to $204,200/year in our highest geographic market. Pay is based on a number of factors including market location and may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience.
