University of Miami Pre-College offers both credit and non-credit summer programs for high school students seeking to gain college experience before graduating from high school. Upon completion, participants feel better prepared for the undergraduate admission process and gain confidence in their academic choices and ability to succeed in college.
The Division of Continuing and International Education (DCIE), in conjunction with Breakthrough Miami (BTM), seeks a full-time Service and Engagement Senior Program Coordinator to join its team of professionals. The Service and Engagement Senior Program Coordinator will act as the primary liaison between DCIE and BTM offices and will manage various joint initiatives, including College Access programs and the BreakthroughU yearly and summer programs. The Senior Program Coordinator will work as a representative of UM and as an ambassador of B, their students, and their families. The role will encompass developing and maintaining campus partnerships with student teachers, volunteers, faculty, and administrative staff in addition to assisting with UM site management, logistics, and other organizational needs for both DCIE and BTM. The Service and Engagement Senior Program Coordinator is a grant-funded position and will report to the Assistant Dean of DCIE.
Sr. Program Coordinator, Service & Engagement
College Access Program Management:
Provide leadership and program management for the BreakthroughU academic year and summer program
Support BTM staff, students, and families with college preparedness initiatives inclusive of academic development, experiential learning, mentoring/tutorial services and degree planning tools
Build strong relationships with students and guardian figures to provide support and nurturing of individual students, their strengths, appropriate intervention plans, and resources as needed
Coordinate alongside BTM staff to provide the students with yearly planned workshops and programs centered around college applications, admissions, financial aid and scholarships, matriculation and enrollment, campus transition information, etc.
Create opportunities for BTM students to collaborate with college departments centered in career development, Greek Life, civic and community engagement, athletics, and multi-cultural/social advocacy
Create opportunities for Breakthrough Miami Alumni to engage with current program participants and events
Assist BTM in recruiting, managing, and developing student workers/interns, 20+ staff members and 25+ volunteers for the Summer BreakthroughU program
Track all BTM staff and support staff's Level II Background Checks and all other trainings required by UM, the Office of Conference Services, Risk Management, etc.
Work in collaboration with the Assistant Dean and DCIE Business Office Manager, Advancement Office, and Provost's Office to manage the gift, program budget, and operational expenditures
Cultivate and foster positive relationships with BTM staff, leadership, students, parents, and all external organizations
Implement changes based on program assessment with support of DCIE and BM leadership
Liaison Duties:
Act as a liaison between DCIE and BTM for joint programming and educational initiatives
Align with the DCIE Precollege unit to foster the needs of BTM programs, students, and future goals
Position requires weekday, weeknight, and weekend responsibilities virtually, on campus, and in the community as necessary
Organize the UM/BTM Advisory Committee, committee meetings, and collaborate for goals and initiatives
Assist in the planning and execution of existing collaborative events and initiatives
Work with administration, faculty, staff, and students to plan and develop sustainable collaborative programming that combines curricular and co-curricular service opportunities
Facilitate opportunities for existing and new collaborative objectives and programs between the two offices
Other duties as assigned by DCIE and/or BTM partner
Minimum Qualifications:
Bachelor's Degree preferred in Education, Higher Education Administration or comparable
Minimum 3-5 years' experience working in an educational or community organization setting
Experience working with and/or mentoring students that are minors (8-12 grade/young adult level) and their families
Must meet Level II Background Clearance
Results oriented management skills associated with development and execution of systems to ensure accountability
Some experience working with or moderate knowledge of university career centers, academic enhancement centers, offices for multi-cultural and first-generation offices
Knowledge of crisis/emergency planning and effective execution of providing appropriate solution-based direction
Effective oral and written communication skills
Effective organizational skills
Proficient in Microsoft Office Suit (Word, Excel, Power Point, etc.)
General knowledge of higher education systems (College board, FAFSA, CSS, Common App, etc.)
Presentation and meeting facilitation training or experience
