We are seeking a Scientific Program Manager to support the National Institutes of Health's (NIH), world renowned National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases (NIAID) in Bethesda, MD. Responsibilities

  • Manage a portfolio that contains the discovery, development and life cycle management of candidate influenza vaccine products.
  • Provide program management support for discovery, pre-clinical and clinical product development activities, partnering with external collaborators as well as internal groups.
  • Perform scientific and administrative reviews and analyses of applications/proposals from a programmatic viewpoint.
  • Coordinate with NIAID staff to facilitate grantees/contractors' submission of applications and proposals.
  • Support execution of program plans and facilitate connections between a number of cross-functional areas within NIAID and with other USG agencies. As such prior project management experience with the process and stages of vaccine product development from discovery/pre-clinical moving toward clinical testing is a desired skill.
  • Provide support for strategic development plans, nonclinical study conduct, and recommendations for logistical coordination of nonclinical studies with clinical trials.
  • Ensure that all the nonclinical studies being performed are done in a manner that will be acceptable to the FDA and can be used to support product licensure.
  • Collaborate with the Section Chief and NIAID leadership to identify influenza vaccine research needs and opportunities to achieve an innovative, integrated, and responsive research program.
  • Closely monitor and stay informed of relevant national and international research efforts, programs and policies relevant to the development of influenza vaccines.
  • Provide facilitation organization, help conduct and/or participate in workshops, conferences, site visits, and staff meetings; present and discuss research-related projects and information.
  • Coordinate and collaborate with other Branch and Division staff and NIAID and USG Offices.
  • Provide effective communication and problem-solving skills in working with other Branch, Division, and NIAID components, other ICs, and other DHHS agency staff and academic and
    industrial organizations.
  • Provide scientific review of pre-clinical and clinical protocols with a focus on respiratory pathogens, particularly influenza vaccines.


Qualifications

  • Ph.D.
  • Minimum of five (5) years of related experience is required.
  • Experience with viral vaccines and/or product development
  • Strong relationship building, communications and management skills.
  • Experience managing research projects and/or programs.
  • Strong oral and technical writing capability.
  • Demonstrated ability to work both independently and in a team-oriented, collaborative environment.
  • Can conform to shifting priorities, demands and timelines.
