RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Accurately interpret and apply information from work orders, job orders, specifications, blueprints or drawings.
  • Identify, recognize and demonstrate safe usage of hand tools and power tools appropriate for the job.
  • Recognize various materials used in the craft and demonstrate a working knowledge of appropriate material handling techniques.
  • Select and safely use appropriate equipment which may include (but not limited to) manlifts, fork lifts, and company trucks.
  • Demonstrate knowledge and skills in safe rigging practices.
  • Identify, explain and perform crane signals.
  • Identify functions, operating characteristics and limitations or various pieces of heavy equipment.
  • Demonstrate ability to effectively communicate hoisting problems to appropriate personnel.
  • Demonstrate knowledge of appropriate procedures required when performing lifts near power lines.
  • Demonstrate ability to assure adequate site preparation for cranes,
  • Demonstrate ability to consistently obtain correct load weight and load placement information prior to performing any lifts.
  • Demonstrate ability to determine the number of parts of hoist line required.
  • Demonstrate ability to assemble, set up, and rig a crane properly.
  • Demonstrate ability to safely move a crane from one location to another.
  • Demonstrate appropriate procedures in shutting down and securing cranes when they are unattended.
  • Demonstrate ability to read and understand sling and shackle charts.
  • Demonstrate ability to inspect all equipment used in the lifting process including slings, cables, shackles, chains, pins, safety catches, etc.
  • Demonstrate knowledge and skills for hand rigging procedures.
  • Select gear such as cables, pulleys, and winches, according to load weights and sizes, facilities, and work schedules.
  • Attach loads to rigging to provide support or prepare them for moving, using hand and power tools.
  • Tilt, dip, and turn suspended loads to maneuver over, under, and/or around obstacles, using multi-point suspension techniques.
  • Control movement of heavy equipment through narrow openings or confined spaces, using chain falls, gin poles, gallows frames, and other equipment.
  • Test rigging to ensure safety and reliability.
  • Signal or verbally direct workers engaged in hoisting and moving loads, in order to ensure safety of workers and materials.


QUALIFICATIONS

  • Candidate must be NCCER certified
