Summary: Laboratory in the Department of Pediatrics focuses on the preclinical development of molecularly-targeted therapies and cellular immunotherapies to improve outcomes and minimize toxicities for children with high-risk leukemias.
Chimeric antigen receptor (CAR) T cell immunotherapy targeting the CD19 cell surface antigen has demonstrated unprecedented efficacy in children with relapsed or refractory acute lymphoblastic leukemia (ALL). The Niswander laboratory is particularly interested in improving the long-term efficacy of CAR T cell immunotherapy through the preclinical investigation of rational combinatorial therapeutic approaches with CAR T cells and small molecule inhibitors that target key biologic vulnerabilities of certain subtypes of high-risk leukemia.
We are seeking a highly motivated, hard-working, and organized research technician with interests in pediatric leukemia and/or cellular immunotherapies to join our laboratory. Specific skills to be acquired with training and utilized in this position: in vitro cell culture, production and in vitro analyses of CAR T cells, flow cytometry, and mouse modeling of human leukemia xenografts including preclinical drug treatment, disease monitoring, and treatment efficacy analysis. Regular one-on-one meetings with Dr. Niswander will include experimental planning, results discussion, and career development. Candidates with prior laboratory experience, particularly with animal studies, and those willing to commit at least 2 full-time years to the position will be prioritized. A successful applicant must be a highly collaborative, collegial team player, with excellent organizational and communication skills.
Salary range $48,515 - $61,525 which includes a comprehensive benefits package.
Qualifications:Bachelors Degree, Masters Degree, Required Education and Experience
1. Master's degree in a clinical or scientific discipline; or
2. Bachelor's degree in a clinical or scientific discipline and the equivalent of one (1) year of full-time experience in a laboratory setting.
NOTE:
Required degrees must have been granted by an accredited school, college or university or one recognized by Roswell Park Comprehensive Cancer Center as following acceptable educational practices.
Preferred Qualifications
The preferred candidate should have experience working with mice in a research setting, designing/troubleshooting experiments, and flow cytometry. The preferred candidate should have experience with cell culture, proficiency in Microsoft Office, and have excellent organizational and communication skills,
