Duties: The Department of Neurosurgery is recruiting a Research Specialist A to work in the area of brain repair research using small animal and in vitro models in a laboratory focused on electrophysiology, stem cell biology, and neural transplantation. Studies include neurosurgical procedures (brain) in rodent models, electrophysiological recordings in vitro and in vivo, calcium imaging and two-photon microscopy, and tissue processing/histology. Other tasks will include maintenance of logs and lab reports, surgery preparation, data analysis, retrieval of recent literature, ordering, and general lab maintenance. This position will also oversee students with less experience.
Qualifications: A Bachelor's degree in Neuroscience, Biology, Psychology, Biomedical Engineering, or a closely related field and 0 to 1 years of experience or a combination of education and experience required.
The successful candidate should be a highly motivated individual with some previous laboratory experience (animal model experience preferred but not required). Familiarity with coding, MATLAB, or other highly technical activities is a positive. The candidate should also possess strong written and verbal communication skills, as well as familiarity with analyzing, graphing, and presenting data. Attention to detail, organizational skills, reliability, ability to work independently, and willingness to manage and work cooperatively with others is extremely important.
