We are currently seeking applications to fill the following job opening at Daramic where we develop and manufacture advanced lead-acid battery separators that are driving innovation in transportation and industrial applications with cars, trucks, forklifts, and golf carts as well as ESS.

Adequately provide resources for all assigned processes and procedures to fulfill requirements. Awareness of expectations is demonstrated in all relevant levels of the organization. Required Skills/Abilities

  • Able to interact with engineers.
  • General familiarity with GLP's
  • MS Office suite knowledge
  • Welding/soldering knowledge

Expectations

  • Set up and run standard and non-standard test procedures from oral and written instructions using standard and specialized battery laboratory equipment including battery cyclers and water baths. Under minimal supervision of superior, will perform tests or experiments and record data necessary for analysis. Must be familiar with the purpose and operating techniques of equipment and instruments for the particular laboratory involved.
  • Confers with product development engineers and tech service managers to understand problems and testing requirements relating to specifications, new raw materials and to review test plans, such as types and cycles of tests, condition under which test are to be conducted, and duration of tests.
  • Hand build batteries/cells, including welding/soldering components together.
  • Operates precision analytical measuring instruments including multimeters, hydrometers, and balances.
  • Installation of battery/cells to be tested in testing fixtures, connecting valves, pumps, hydraulic, mechanical or electrical controls, cabling, tubing, power source, and indicating instruments.
  • Activates controls to apply electrical, hydraulic, pneumatic, or mechanical power and subject test item to successive steps in test cycle.
  • Monitors controls and instruments and records test data for engineer's use.
  • May recommend changes in test methods or equipment for engineering review.
  • Coordinates testing and work flow to meet project needs.
  • Prepares reports on testing conducted for internal distribution.
  • Perform routine maintenance and troubleshoot issues with test equipment.
  • Occasionally mix chemical solutions.
  • Properly dispose of HAZMAT materials according to company guidelines.
  • Tear down batteries/cells upon completion of testing to determine failure modes.
  • Maintain a clean environment to prevent lead contamination.
  • Identify, remove, pack, transport, or dispose of hazardous materials, including but not limited to acids, bases, surfactants, and other process related chemicals.
  • Specialized training and certification in hazardous materials handling will be required.
  • The company will provide training within six months after their start date or transfer into position and will re-train every three years.

Working Conditions

Laboratory setting that would require working in a production environment. Work will require standing and walking for up to 80% of the time. Lighting and temperature is adequate. Exerting up to 10 pounds of force occasionally and/or a negligible amount to force frequently to lift, carry, push, pull, or otherwise move objects, including the human body.

Candidate Requirements

Education: Associates Degree or Bachelor's preferred

Professional experience: 1-3 years of professional experience.

Mechanical / Electrical experience preferred
