The Combustion Engineer is responsible to operate and maintain small and large-scale fire testing equipment. This role will require calibration and troubleshooting of associated test equipment as well as sample preparation. The Combustion Engineer will work with scientists across various product lines to execute fire test programs, interpret data, and generate reports. This role will require collaboration with scientists, engineers, maintenance, third-party test labs, and equipment manufacturers. The Combustion Engineer will develop and document all essential knowledge related to operation of fire test equipment, with an emphasis on safety.

This job will be performed Monday through Friday, from 8 am to 5 pm, with occasional work beyond these hours to meet project deadlines or attend stakeholder meetings. The position will require approximately 10% travel throughout the calendar year.

Duties and Responsibilities:

* 60% - Fire Test Equipment Operation

* Operation of small and large-scale fire test equipment, with an emphasis on safety and accuracy
* Collaborate with vendors, contractors, and internal teams to facilitate setup of the lab
* Ensure all equipment is installed and functioning according to specifications
* Document methods and train others
* Collaborate with equipment suppliers and CCM scientists/engineers to develop experimental test methods
* Manage all relevant test data, include reporting and interpretation of results
* Manage test supplies and inventory

* 20% - Leverage Combustion Science to Accelerate New Product Development

* Leverage knowledge of fire testing and combustion of polymeric materials to accelerate code approvals for new product development programs
* Utilize insights related to combustion mechanisms to aid in designing new products
* Assist with specimen preparation as needed, including building of full-scale test assemblies for R&I test programs

* 10% - Maintenance and Troubleshooting

* Perform fire test equipment calibration
* Troubleshoot issues with fire test equipment, relying on equipment vendors as needed
* Perform routine fire test equipment maintenance

* 10% - Codes and Standards Development

* Provide leadership in codes and standards development while advocating for fire safety
* Participate in ASTM committees as it relates to fire test standard development
* Participate in building code development as it relates to fire test standards and compliance

* Education - Bachelor's of Science in Fire Protection Engineering, Fire Protection Engineering and Safety Technology, or Fire Science (or related discipline)

Preferred:

* 2+ years' experience as an engineer in fire testing or related field or operating fire test equipment
