Purpose

The Office of Refugee Resettlement (ORR) funds the Strategies for Trauma-Affected Refugees (STAR) program, operated by Church World Service (CWS). This program assists underserved refugees and newcomers eligible for ORR services, focusing on promoting integration and enhancing their physical, social, emotional, and economic well-being.

The Supervisor of Community Health Workers (CHWs) will oversee the CHW team, ensuring they effectively collaborate with clients and their families to develop personalized plans that enhance coping skills and improve overall functioning. The Supervisor will play a key role in resource navigation, helping clients access essential services for lasting well-being, and advocating for clients' rights within community services. Additionally, the Supervisor will ensure the successful creation and facilitation of monthly psychosocial support groups to foster community connections and provide platforms for shared experiences and healing.

Responsibilities

CHW Services:

  • Team Leadership: Supervise and support CHWs, providing guidance and training to enhance their effectiveness in client interactions and service delivery.
  • Intake and Assessment Oversight: Ensure comprehensive assessments are conducted for all STAR clients, evaluating their functioning in school, employment, family, social engagement, and basic needs.
  • Individualized Support Development: Facilitate the creation of tailored care plans that focus on mental health goals and resource building, while promoting education about trauma and its impact on well-being.
  • Resource Navigation: Oversee efforts to assist clients in accessing essential resources for sustainable well-being and advocate for their rights within community services.
  • Ongoing Support Management: Monitor the execution of monthly in-person or virtual visits with clients to ensure consistent support.
  • Psychosocial Support Group Facilitation: Lead and oversee the monthly psychosocial support groups to strengthen community connections and promote shared healing.

Additional Duties:
  • Track and monitor the progress of client goals and program effectiveness.
  • Serve as a mandated reporter, ensuring compliance with all reporting requirements.
  • Network and develop partnerships to educate providers on clients' needs and enhance collaboration.
  • Review and ensure timely completion of case notes, data entry, and reports.
  • Participate in supervision, team meetings, and relevant training sessions.
  • Be available for occasional evening or weekend assignments as needed.

Qualifications

Education:
  • Bachelor's degree in social work or a related human services field or equivalent professional work experience required.

Experience:
  • At least 5 years of experience in resettlement or human services preferred.
  • At least 2 years of supervisory experience
  • Prior case management experience required.
  • Lived experience as a refugee or immigrant preferred.
Skills:
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, with proficiency in MS Office and familiarity with data-tracking systems.
  • Proven ability to lead and collaborate effectively with community professionals and organizations.
  • Excellent relationship-building skills to establish trust and rapport with clients.
  • Ability to maintain composure and exercise sound judgment in high-stress situations.
  • Demonstrated success in effective communication across diverse backgrounds, including race, gender, ethnicity, language, religion, and age.
  • Fluency in English and a secondary language

Special Requirements

  • Valid driver's license and access to a reliable vehicle with current insurance.
  • Successful completion of a criminal background check.
