Purpose of Role

The Product Test Engineer will develop the workflow and organizational structure for the Design Innovation and Testing Center(DI&TC), manage and execute daily testing activities, and promote its capabilities. They will ensure validation equipment meets standards, develop procedures with the design team, and clearly report findings. Through these efforts, the Product Test Engineer will play a crucial role in supporting and advancing RPC•s circular plastic economy and product development initiatives.

Area of Accountability

Design Innovation and Testing Center Management

  • Manage and communicate progress of Product Test Requests.
  • Manage the test sample queue to ensure proper organization of what•s to be tested or retained
  • Maintain and Refine Product Validation Protocols in accordance with Rehrig•s quality management system standards.
  • Maintain the DI&TC development schedule with the support of Principal Design Engineer.
  • Maintain testing equipment service schedule and that adequate testing consumables are on hand.
  • Coordinate and oversee 3rd party lab testing.
  • Support Sales and Design with DI&TC tours and showcasing.

Product Validation Development and Testing
  • Develop Core Product Validation Protocols with the guidance of Design team members.
  • Execute competitor benchmark testing to provide to provide insight on competitive performance
  • Assist New Product Development (NPD) in the execution of Prototype and T1 Validation Performance Testing.

Cross-Functional Collaboration
  • Partner with Design and Engineering to develop product simulation tests that accurately represent customer handling and usage scenarios.
  • Assist Materials and Sustainability team members in the development of alternative material blends that meet internal and/or external goals.
  • Partner with Product Integrity to ensure quality performance testing at plant level remains consistent with national standards.

Knowledge, Skills, and Experience
  • Candidate must have experience in creating technical writes up and following Standard operating procedures.
  • BS in Mechanical Engineer/Packaging Engineer and/or 5 years of experience in QC or Lab Tech in Plastics industry required. Technical knowledge and skills in rigid plastics is preferred.
  • Candidate must have an analytical testing background.
  • Candidate must possess the ability to juggle many projects/tasks simultaneously, while meeting precise deadlines.
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills.
  • Candidate must be results oriented with the ability to excel in a self-initiated environment.
  • Strong decision-making skills.
  • Minimal to moderate travel is required.
