Post-Doctoral Fellow, Psychology/Fadok
Location:
New Orleans, LA
Open Date:
Jul 15, 2024
Description:
A postdoctoral position focused on dissecting the neuronal circuits of emotion and adaptive behavior is available in the laboratory of Dr. Jonathan P. Fadok at Tulane University.
The lab is broadly interested in how the brain generates and controls emotional primitives and the adaptive behaviors that subsequently arise from such internal states. We investigate these phenomena by dissecting neuronal circuits at the level of identified cell types, at both the local and long-range levels. We are especially interested in understanding how brain regions interact to influence the acquisition of emotionally-laden experiences. Furthermore, we are working to bridge the gap between basic science and medicine by using applied methods based on our basic research findings. We utilize a combination of large-scale in vivo recordings of neuronal activity (single-unit electrophysiology and deep brain calcium imaging) and functional manipulations (e.g. optogenetics) during freely moving behavioral assays. We also incorporate modern neuroanatomical tracing techniques, such as cell-type specific anterograde and retrograde methods.
The position is available as early as December 1st 2017, with a competitive salary and benefits package commensurate with prior experience (NIH scale).
Candidates should have a recent PhD in neuroscience or related field with a track-record of first-author publications. Strong programming (Matlab or similar), data analysis, and statistics skills are preferred. Previous electrophysiology experience is also preferred. Excellent written and oral English communication skills are required.
Applicants should send a CV, brief statement of research interests, and contact information for 2-3 references to Jonathan Fadok at jfadok@tulane.edu. Information about the lab and a list of publications can be found at http://www2.tulane.edu/sse/psyc/faculty-and-staff/faculty/jonathan-fadok.cfm . Applications will be reviewed on an ongoing basis.
