Job Summary
This role focuses on expanding Molecule Maker Lab Institute (MMLI's) industrial partnerships and leading the research training program, which provides top-tier research training in AI and chemistry for students, researchers, and professionals. The coordinator will play a crucial role in advancing our mission through industry collaborations and training the next generation of scientists.

Duties & Responsibilities

Partnership Development and Management
• Grow Industrial Partnerships: Identify, establish, and expand relationships with industrial partners aligned with MMLI's goals, developing collaboration frameworks that deliver value to both MMLI and partner organizations.
• Manage Existing Partnerships: Maintain and strengthen relationships with current industry partners, ensuring alignment, ongoing engagement, and new collaboration opportunities.
• Strategic Alignment with MMLI Leadership: Collaborate with MMLI leaders to ensure partnerships support the institute's strategic objectives, fostering synergy between industry needs and MMLI's research capabilities.
• Industry Engagement Initiatives: Coordinate and execute events such as workshops, seminars, and networking opportunities to facilitate industry collaboration and highlight MMLI's research breakthroughs.

Research Training Program Coordination
• Develop and Expand MMLI Research Training Programs: Assist the managing director to develop and grow the research training programs to offer cutting-edge scientific training in AI and chemistry to students, researchers, and professionals across various stages of their careers.
• Program Design and Delivery: Work with MMLI faculty and researchers to create and implement training modules, mentorship opportunities, and hands-on learning experiences.
• Outreach and Recruitment: Lead efforts to attract and engage participants from diverse backgrounds, including undergraduate and community college students, graduate students, and postdoctoral researchers and faculty members.
• Program Administration: Oversee logistics, communication, and operational support for the research training program, ensuring a seamless experience for participants.

Events and Engagement Activities
• Support Institute-wide Events: Assist the Managing Director in planning, organizing, and executing all-institute activities, including symposiums, retreats, and community-building initiatives.
• Event Coordination and Logistics: Support the Managing Director in handling logistics, coordinating with speakers and participants, managing schedules, and ensuring that events run smoothly and professionally.
• Engagement and Outreach: Assist in collaboration with the managing director and communications teams to promote events and ensure high attendance from internal and external stakeholders, especially MMLI industrial partners.
• Reporting: Assisting MMLI director and managing director to prepare annual reports, slides, etc.

Specialty Factors

Bachelor's degree science or engineering, including chemistry, chemical engineering, computer science, or a related STEM field.
A total of one (1) year (12 months) in work experience with industry partnership development and/or management.

Preferred Qualifications

Master's degree in science or engineering, including chemistry, chemical engineering, computer science, or a related STEM field; Experience with project management including coordinating complex programs or collaborations.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Effective interpersonal communication skills, with the ability to engage a diverse audience of students, researchers, and industry professionals.
  • Knowledge of industry trends in chemistry, artificial intelligence, and related fields.
  • Familiarity with educational frameworks and experiential learning methods for STEM disciplines.
  • Awareness of ability to develop and promote diversity, equity, and inclusion practices in STEM education and training.
  • Principles of planning and executing professional events, including conferences and workshops.
  • Basic knowledge of chemistry, machine learning, and their applications in solving complex scientific challenges.
  • Understanding of academic research environments and funding mechanisms.
  • Competence in managing multiple tasks and deadlines with a high degree of organization.
  • Ability to develop outreach strategies that attract participants from diverse backgrounds.
  • Adaptability to evolving needs and priorities in a dynamic research environment.
Appointment Information

This is a 100% full-time Civil Service 5002 - Program Coordinator position, appointed on a 12-month basis. The expected start date is as soon as possible after 1/27/2025. The budgeted salary for this position is $50,000 to $75,000 per year. The pay offered to the selected candidate will be determined based on factors including (but not limited to) the experience and qualifications of the selected candidate including equivalent years in rank, training, and field or discipline; internal equity; and external market pay for comparable jobs.

This position will be subject to periodic reviews that include continued availability of funds, compliance with university policies, and upholding of IGB's commitment to providing an inclusive, diverse, and welcoming environment.
