The IU African Studies Program is recognized as one of the leading centers for the interdisciplinary study of Africa. A Title VI National Resource Center, our diverse research, teaching, and outreach activities promote greater understanding and appreciation of the continent and its global diaspora.
Job Summary
- Performs administrative and department manager duties for the unit.
- Assists the Director with managing accounts and budgets.
- Manages personnel records and assists with scheduling of African Studies Courses.
- Oversees graduate program affairs and records.
- Assists the Associate Director with grant application preparations, specifically financial components.
- Serves as a resource person for prospective and current students, faculty and staff.
- Maintains and updates student files, records and databases.
- Manages the units main email account.
QualificationsEDUCATION
Required- High school diploma or equivalent (such as HSED or GED)
SKILLS
Required
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to interact and communicate with a wide variety of individuals
- Strong organizational and multi-tasking skills
- Ability to manage multiple tasks in a timely manner
- Maintains confidentiality
- Operating knowledge of standard office equipment
- Proficiency in Microsoft office Suite including Word, Outlook, Access and Excel
Preferred- Experience with IU program and processes
Additional InformationThis is a part-time non-benefit eligible position working.
