Job Summary
***** Please note that this is a 20 hour position ***** Shift: 11a-9p 10 hours Saturday, 10 hours the following Sunday Under direction of Supervisor, Orthopaedic Technicians, this position is responsible for providing orthopaedic services to patients. Removes and applies casts and supportive dressings. Prepares, sets-up and applies traction and assists with the application of complicated orthopaedic procedures, i.e., Halos and K-wires. Maintains, dispenses and orders supplies and equipment necessary to stock orthopaedic facilities to meet the needs of the seven basic areas serviced. Manufactures orthopaedic items to specifications set by physician. Assists physician with fracture reduction, setting dislocations and suture removal. Distributes orthopaedic aids such as crutches and canes and instructs patients in their use and also maintains inventory of such orthopaedic equipment, in storage as well as in service. Calls patient report to floor including work-up by physician and additional patient history and reports to the physician as to the extent of the injury. Transports patients with cervical spine and femur fractures from Emergency room to floor. under direction of physician, Orders X-ray series, post reduction films or repeat X-rays. Prepares patients for Sterile procedures involving Joint aspirations, injections and minor surgery. Performs routine procedures for admitting patients such as drawing blood, catheterizing male patients, electro-cardiograms and taking and recording of such vital signs as body temperature, blood pressure and pulse. Instructs patient in cast care, simple exercises, preventive measures, i.e., evaluation of affected extremity and proper body mechanics.
