Nutrient Cycling & Ecological Design Research Coordinator

Posting Summary
Oversee, coordinate, and supervise all operations of two distinct but complementary UVM research entities housed in Rubenstein School of Environment & Natural Resources: (1) the Nutrient Cycling & Ecological Design Laboratory ("NCED Lab"), and (2) the Casella Center for Circular Economy & Sustainability ("Casella Center").
For the NCED Lab: Provide functional supervision to all laboratory employees, including staff, graduate students, undergraduate students, and temporary workers. Plan, schedule, coordinate, and prioritize four or more external grant-funded projects at a time. Coordinate and supervise sample collection from field sites (e.g., wetlands, stormwater infrastructure, farms, waste management facilities). Conduct advanced analysis of laboratory quality control data. Lead data analysis and modeling efforts. Serve as lead author on peer-reviewed publications of laboratory results and methods and co-author publications written by laboratory students and collaborators. Communicate with sponsors, give public presentations, and prepare grant reports.
For the Casella Center: Working with guidance from the Center Director, develop project work plans (including staffing requirements, faculty collaborations, research/data analysis approaches, interpretation, and check-ins). Engage key stakeholder groups in execution of the projects as well as Center events (workshops, conferences). Coordinate and oversee undergraduate student research/design competitions. Develop and track budgets and expenditures, develop funding narratives to support the Center, manage grants and gifts supporting the Center and lead development of any required fiscal and grant/gift reporting. Provide functional supervision to staff, undergraduate students, graduate students, temporary hourly employees, and/or contractors as needed by individual projects.
Minimum Qualifications (or equivalent combination of education and experience)
Master's degree in a field related to environmental science or engineering and five years relevant experience including both advanced environmental science/engineering research and project management. Experience in grant reporting, budget and expenditure tracking, and sponsor communication. Experience supervising employees and providing team leadership. Demonstrated familiarity with general research principles and methods, biogeochemistry laboratory methods, field sampling methods, statistics, data acquisition and management, statistics, modeling, and data visualization required. Effective written and oral communication skills, including experience with peer-reviewed publications and presentations to scientific audiences. Proven experience in managing multiple complex projects, and the ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships both remotely and in person are required. Valid U.S. Driver's License required (or ability to obtain).
