Job Summary
Job Title: Nurse Practitioner Child Partial Hospital Program The McLean Division of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry, Child Partial Hospital Program (C-PHP) is a program for 7-13-year-olds struggling with irritability, suicide, and self-injury. This program provides evidence-based therapy and medication management, while also catalyzing new research so as to improve care and outcomes. The nurse practitioner plays a critical part of this multi-disciplinary team. The nurse practitioner will work as a member of an interdisciplinary treatment team to provide care to patients at C-PHP. The nurse practitioner will provide ongoing psychiatric and medical assessments, case management, pharmacological treatment including prescribing medications, medication management, and monitoring of non-psychiatric medical conditions and medications. They will provide psychoeducation around treatment, diagnosis, and medications to patients. Duties include developing and implementing innovative programming and coordinating medical care with other McLean services and external clinics and hospitals. Additionally, the nurse practitioner will provide containment and support for the milieu by reinforcing desired behaviors and interacting with patients in more informal moments such as occasional lunch or outdoor times. They will also assist with the patient-centered aspects of the patient community including occasionally leading weekly community meeting, running groups. Principal Duties and Responsibilities • As part of the role, will collaborate with medical director and program director to support milieu and monitor quality assurance. • Recommend, monitor, and evaluate client's use of psychiatric medications. • Monitor medical conditions that are managed by a primary health care provider, communicate with the primary health care provider to coordinate treatment, and determine most appropriate medical providers and make referral if necessary. • Respond to patient difficulties and complaints in accordance with existing program/hospital policies and procedures. • Act as a liaison between patients and clinicians to ensure optimal implementation of treatment programs and overall clinical care quality. • Meet with all patients prior to discharge for exit interview. Gather data/feedback about specific aspects of the program in order to make decisions about program changes and improvements, staff issues, etc. • Educate non-medical team members on medical conditions, psychiatric and non-psychiatric medications, and their side effects. • Completes clinical documentation appropriate to services provided. • Assists in the ongoing program development, analyzes, and defines short- and long-term program goals and objectives and makes recommendations to the director. • Participates in ongoing interdisciplinary staff/team meeting. • Join and occasionally run community meeting each week. • Run groups weekly. • Other duties as required that relate to patient clinical and medical care.

Qualifications

Qualifications ( MUST be realistic, neither overstated nor understated, and related to the essential function of the job). • Education: Masters degree from an accredited school of nursing. • Experience: At least 3years of clinical experience working with children and families with high-risk complex psychiatric issues. • License: Current licensure in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts as a Registered Nurse in the Advanced Practice role. DEA and DPH/MCSR registrations for those in the prescribing role • Certification: ANCC certified as an Advanced Practice Psychiatric Nurse. • Skills: Self-motivated individual who has the ability to work independently as well as collaboratively with the interdisciplinary clinical team and community-based healthcare organizations. This individual needs to have good organizational skills, the ability to multitask, and the ability to be flexible. Energy level should be sufficient to accomplish tasks under stress, maintain appropriate professional demeanor and maintain safety when interacting with clients. They must have experience with assessment, diagnosis, appropriate documentation, and providing psychopharmacological treatment. Skills/Abilities/Competencies Required ( MUST be realistic, neither overstated nor understated, and related to the essential function of the job). • Ability to work independently and proactively address problems, and also work as a member of a multidisciplinary integrated team.
