General Summary and Overview
Nurse Coordinator in ambulatory Pediatric Hematology Oncology and Pediatric Medical Infusion. Provides for direct patient care and support nursing practice through education, training, application and implementation of evidence-based nursing practice, protocol development and evaluation for chemotherapy and medical infusion treatment. Collaborative with interdisciplinary care team to optimize patient experience, support workflow efficiency. Provides leadership in collaboration with the nursing director and the care team to optimize team development and team, and the patient to achieve optimal patient outcomes.
Description of Principle Responsibilities
• Supporting nursing practice through consultative and role modeling activities
• Applying innovative technology, nursing theories, research findings and experiential knowledge to improve nursing practice.
• Responding to changes in clinical practice by planning, crafting, implementing, or evaluating guidelines, protocols, and standards in collaboration with the nursing director, nursing staff and members of the health care team.
• Implementing and evaluating programs and practice changes based upon learning the needs of patients, and staff.
• Collaborating with the Nurse Director to provide leadership and education to registered nurses, advanced practice providers and all members of the health care team
- Direct patient care, administering chemotherapy, biologics, and medical infusions to pediatric patient population.
- Collaborates regularly with inpatient and referring providers and programs for continuity of care.
• Participates in orientation of new permanent and temporary staff members.
- Provides input to the practice leadership regarding practice needs.
- Participates in and contributes to performance improvement activities.
Professional Development:• Maintains and updates clinical knowledge and skills based on current nursing education practice.
• Collaborates with practice leadership to identify developmental level of practice and appropriate learning experiences to enhance development.
• Adheres to Department of Nursing requirements for training as specified in the MGB Nursing Practice Manual.
• Contributes to relevant committees, professional meetings, continuing educational and / or formal academic programs.
• Participates in NPS/CNS committee, relevant conferences, and educational opportunities to maintain learning.
• anticipates and contributes to research, project, publications, and initiates.
SKILLS/ABILITIES/COMPETENCIES REQUIRED: - BLS certification required
- Excellent interpersonal skills, ability to communicate effectively to families, interdisciplinary car team, referring program and providers
- Chemo certification
- Dedication to both bedside instructing and formal hospital education programs.
- Ability to multi-task and to support staff nurses, who range from novice to those many years of expert
• Ability to develop and support unit-based quality improvement/research projects.
Qualifications Qualifications - External LICENSES, CERTIFICATIONS, and/or REGISTRATIONS (if applicable):
Current licensure as a CNS/NPS in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts required
Relevant professional experience as Nurse practice specialist
EDUCATION:
Graduate from an accredited nursing program required.
Master's degree in nursing.
EXPERIENCE:
Must have a minimum of 5-7 years pediatric oncology nursing experience required,
Minimum 5 years' of nurse leadership, experience in e pediatric oncology experience preferred.
WORKING CONDITIONS:
Outpatient clinic setting. Occasional after-hours functions outside of defined working hours.
