Who are we looking for?

Our Midwest Environmental business is looking for a Senior Level Wetland Scientist/ Ecologist to join their Natural Resources team. You will play a lead role in overseeing and conducting wetland and water resources assessments, state and federal protected species surveys, environmental review, and local, state, and federal permits. You will design and implement ecological sampling and monitoring plans, conduct data analysis and lead preparation of technical reports. Internal and external client communication and expertise in new business development are key requirements for this position.

Working with an energetic and high performing team, this position offers a variety of work and will see you involved in:

  • Conduct field assessments including wetland delineations, stream surveys, fish, reptile and amphibian surveys, and protected species habitat assessments
  • Collect chemical and biological data including sampling of surface water, sediment, macroinvertebrates, soil, groundwater, etc. for purposes of site assessment and/or to support risk assessment projects
  • Prepare technical reports and permit applications in accordance with regulatory requirements
  • Support existing GHD clients with the implementation of efficient and innovative solutions to address their project needs
  • Coordinate technical projects: maintaining client satisfaction and expectations while ensuring projects are delivered safely and within scope, schedule, and budget
  • Establish and develop strategic long-term relationships with current clients, new clients, and prospective teaming partners
  • People management, including supervision of field staff, subcontractors, and junior-level staff, as needed, to deliver projects
  • Project management, tracking and delivery
What you will bring to the team:
  • Master's degree in Natural Resources, Water Resources, Biology, Ecology, or related field, or bachelor's degree with commensurate experience
  • A minimum of 10 years of professional environmental experience, including wetland delineation experience, stream surveys, environmental assessments, sampling, permitting, etc.
  • Certification as a Professional Wetland Scientist (PWS) or Wetland Professional in Training (WPIT) through the Society of Wetland Scientists preferred
  • Other professional certifications (ecology, wildlife, species-specific) and/or active membership in professional organizations
  • Demonstrated experience in the preparation of ecological restoration/compensatory mitigation plans
  • Familiarity with local, state, and federal environmental regulations, permit requirements and land use regulations
  • Project management experience with the ability to independently develop and prepare work plans, budgets, and work scopes in response to RFPs or based on client needs
  • Strong technical writing and verbal communication skills with the ability to work both within a team and independently
  • Excellent organizational skills with ability to prioritize projects and tasks in a fast-paced environment
  • Competency in use of Microsoft office (Word, Excel, Access), ArcGIS, and other data management/analysis applications as well as electronic field data collection tools
  • Experience working with GPS, data loggers and other field mapping/survey devices and applications
  • Able and willing to travel when needed and staff projects that may require multi-day field work and overnight travel
  • Able to work in challenging seasonal climates, variable terrain, and carry necessary field equipment and supplies
  • Able to work remotely, as needed, and collaborate electronically with project teams
