The University of Miami/UHealth Department of Medical Student Education has an exciting opportunity for a full-time Manager, Programs to work in Miami, FL. The manager oversees and coordinates the day-to-day operations of the assigned University programs in accordance with the institution's academic and strategic missions. The incumbent operates with the goal of delivering high quality programs to the University faculty, staff, students, and other key stakeholders. Furthermore, the manager, programs provides guidance and mentorship to program staff to encourage talent development.

CORE JOB FUNCTIONS

  • Plans, implements, evaluates, and monitors organization-wide development programs.
  • Implements project plans related to the delivery of new and on-going professional development programs.
  • Works with internal stakeholders so that the program runs efficient and effectively.
  • Evaluates and measures the effectiveness of assigned programs.
  • Ensures that operations are managed within authorized budgets.
  • Collects, manages, and reports program data.
  • Develops and cultivates relationships and partnerships with various external entities and organizations to further department functions.
  • Recruits, supervises, evaluates, and disciplines department staff to ensure optimum performance.
  • Establishes and continuously assesses the effectiveness of the internal controls within the unit and compliance with University policies and procedures. Ensures employees are trained on controls within the function and on University policy and procedures.

Department Specific Functions
  • Supervise and lead a diverse team of full-time staff and over 50 part-time per diem Standardized Patients (SPs), fostering an environment of professionalism, teamwork, and collaboration.
  • Conduct regular performance evaluations, providing constructive feedback and support for professional development, including workshops, training sessions, and mentoring opportunities.
  • Facilitate ongoing training and orientation for new SPs to ensure they are well-prepared to meet program expectations and uphold the highest standards of performance and professionalism.
  • Monitor the implementation of SP methodologies across various teaching modalities, including OSCEs, formative encounters, telehealth simulations, and hybrid simulations, ensuring alignment with program goals and educational standards.
  • Develop and maintain a comprehensive quality assurance program to evaluate SP performance, identify areas for improvement, and implement corrective actions as needed.
  • Collaborate with faculty and staff to assess the effectiveness of SP interactions in clinical education, utilizing feedback to enhance training and evaluation practices.
  • Oversee the collection and analysis of assessment data, generating reports that highlight areas of deficiency and success within the SP program.
  • Present findings to the Director and other stakeholders, recommending targeted training initiatives and tracking the professional growth of SPs over time.
  • Maintain meticulous records of SP evaluations, training sessions, and performance metrics to support continuous improvement and accountability.
  • Manage the SP calendar, planning and coordinating annual sessions, training workshops, and day-to-day operations to ensure efficient use of resources and seamless program delivery.
  • Coordinate logistics for all SP-related activities, including scheduling, resource allocation, and communication with faculty and participants.
  • Collaborate with the Director to develop, implement, and regularly review standard operating procedures (SOPs) that articulate the program's goals, objectives, and alignment with the University's strategic plan.
  • Ensure that all program activities comply with institutional policies and accreditation standards.
  • Oversee the business processes related to the SP program, including budgeting, reconciliation of purchase orders, and financial reporting to ensure adherence to allocated budgets and resource optimization.
  • Identify opportunities for cost savings and operational efficiencies within the program.
  • Create agendas and lead weekly staff meetings, as well as bi-weekly one-on-one meetings with team members, fostering open communication, collaboration, and the sharing of best practices.
  • Serve as a liaison between the SP program and external departments, facilitating communication and collaboration to enhance the overall educational experience.
  • Perform related duties as required or as directed, demonstrating flexibility and a proactive approach to meeting the evolving needs of the program.
  • Participate in professional development activities to stay current with best practices in standardized patient education and assessment.
  • Demonstrated experience in Adult Learning principles, familiarity with the Association of Standardized Patient Educators (ASPE) Standards of Best Practice, and expertise in Standardized Patient (SP) methodology.
  • Possession of SP Certification or Certified Healthcare Simulation Educator (CHSE) credential, or the ability to obtain SP Certification/CHSE within one year of employment.

  • Bachelor's Degree in relevant field required
  • Minimum 5 years of relevant experience
  • Knowledge of business and management principles.
  • Ability to direct, manage, implement, and evaluate department operations.
  • Ability to establish department goals, and objectives that support the strategic plan.
  • Ability to effectively plan, delegate and/or supervise the work of others.
  • Ability to lead, motivate, develop, and train others.
