JOB SUMMARY:
Under the general direction of the inspection supervisor the Construction Inspector inspects all water and sewer line construction projects to ensure that the work conforms to applicable and current federal, state and local regulations and statutes, as well as design guidelines set forth by TWC and SJW. The Construction Inspector also locates TWC water and sewer facilities prior to TWC or other project locates within the TWC service area. Oversees and/or performs Fire Flow testing as necessary.
PRINCIPLE DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
Apply expert knowledge of all water utility regulations necessary to recognizing errors in construction projects and recommend solutions to manage these inaccuracies.
Recognize potentially dangerous situations and accordingly adapt behavior and projects to ensure that established safety procedures are carried out.
Communicate effectively with peers, customers, county, and state entities so that messages and directions regarding water and sewer construction projects and inspections are clearly understood by all parties involved.
Establish and monitor priorities, and move projects forward to achieve effective and timely results.
Maintain composure and commitment to work during periods of stress and heavy workload.
Demonstrate receptivity to new ideas and approaches, and adapt with flexibility to accommodate any changes in priorities or circumstances.
Utilize current versions of TWC computer software and hardware to create user friendly spreadsheets, databases, letters, reports and other documents.
EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE:
Extensive knowledge of the TWC distribution systems and the System Design Guidelines set forth by TWC.
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES:
Must possess a Class B Distribution license.

ENVIRONMENTAL CONDITIONS/PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
Works approximately 10% of time in temperature-controlled environment. Works approximately 90% outside and therefore may result in exposure to various environmental factors, which include undesirable weather conditions, mechanical hazards, fumes and odors, excessive noise levels, electrical hazards, dust, mud, confined spaces, poison ivy, chemical hazards, and animal/insect hazards.
OTHER REQUIREMENTS:
A valid Texas Driver's License and satisfactory driving record are required to operate a company vehicle.
