Location: Exton, PA
Description: Our client is currently seeking a Histology Technician with a high-profile client of ours based in Exton, PA.
HISTOLOGY TECHNICIAN OR TECHNOLOGIST
- This position will report directly to the Lab Manager with oversite from the Lead Histology Technologist.
- The employee will follow all standard operating procedures for accurately performing a variety of routine and specialized histology techniques, including, embedding, microtomy, special stains, immunohistochemistry, and potentially grossing GI biopsies.
- Perform quality control, and quality assurance as required.
- Meets scheduled deadlines and prioritizes tasks appropriately.
- Demonstrates some degree of flexibility and versatility to meet department needs.
POSITION TASK RESPONSIBILITIES
•If grossing, describes, measures, and inks specimens according to specified protocols.
•Accurately orients tissue at embedding producing sections that appropriately demonstrate cell structures.
•Produce, diagnostic and artefact free tissue sections.
•Performs procedures for staining tissue according to protocol, resulting in a diagnostic slide. •Operates and maintains computer and laboratory equipment according to USDH and laboratory procedures. •Performs Q/C and Q/A documentation as required.
•Files blocks and slides. Retrieves items upon request.
•Helps maintain laboratory equipment according to manufacturer and laboratory recommendations and policies.
•Helps maintain a sufficient supply of inventory through responsible use and prompt notification when low.
•Daily workload is completed within scheduled shift.
•Prioritize tasks for the efficient use of laboratory resources and technician time.
•Consistently demonstrate good laboratory hygiene practices
•Disposes of hazardous chemicals per regulatory guidelines.
•Maintains and understands laboratory inspection guidelines.
•Follows regulatory guidelines and requirements for laboratories and personnel.
•Follows HIPAA regulation standards set by USDH. •Crosstrain and share knowledge; assist in orienting others.
•Performs other duties as assigned.
ATTENDANCE AND RELIABILITY:
•Uses sick time and PTO appropriately.
•Reports to work as scheduled and is at the assigned station, and ready to work at their starting time.
•Always provides proper notification in advance of absences.
•Take 30-minute meal breaks as expected.
•Punches out and returns from lunch on time
JOB QUALIFICATIONS
Minimum Educational Requirements:
•Associate degree in a laboratory science (chemical or biological science) or medical laboratory technology from an accredited institution, or HT, HTL, or MLT (ASCP) certification, or equivalent laboratory training and experience meeting the requirements as defined in the CLIA regulation
Position Experience Minimum - 1 Year Preferred - 3 Years Licenses, certifications None Required Preferred: ASCP Certificate as an HT, HTL, or MLT
