Normal Work Schedule: Monday - Friday 8:00am to 4:45pm

Job Summary: The Graphic Designer I creates and implements graphic design projects for a department or the University under general supervision. Produces graphic designs and illustrations using computer and traditional methods. Formats and edits text. Prepares layouts and specifications for pre-print publications and other promotional media.

Additional Department Summary: Works to further the strategic initiatives of The University of Alabama National Alumni Association (NAA) through the creation and execution of audience and mission appropriate graphic design. Projects, strengthens, and sustains a positive image of the University and the National Alumni Association. Creates visual concepts using computer software (Adobe Design Suite, etc.) to communicate ideas that inspire, inform, or captivate the desired target markets of the National Alumni Association. Develops layouts and production designs for advertisements, logos, brochures, magazines, reports, evites, web and social media, and other products in line with National Alumni Association branding rules and University guidelines.

Required Minimum Qualifications: High school diploma or GED and two (2) years art, commercial art, graphic design, or visual communication experience; OR associate's degree or higher and some art, commercial art, graphic design, or visual communication experience.

Additional Required Department Minimum Qualifications: Must supply a strong portfolio of work showing multiple examples of both print and digital designs.

Skills and Knowledge: Deadline-driven. Ability to receive and apply creative direction. Ability to think and plan strategically as part of a team. Ability to take responsibility for projects, following through from conception to completion and exercising leadership in the interpretation and implementation of the University's unifying graphic standards. Strong internet, technology, and communication skills. Ability to manage and organize files. Ability to look at work from the point-of-view of the target market. Ability to examine how designs will be perceived to ensure they convey the desired message. Strong organizational and technical skills. Understanding of copyright law as it applies to the use of digital assets, typography, and content. Understanding of ADA compliance as it applies to digital design. Ability to create designs that are artistically interesting and appealing to the target market. Ability to adhere to NAA branding, University guidelines, and project workflows during the creative process. Ability to communicate with other departments across campus to ensure designs accurately reflect the desired message and effectively express information. Ability to use specialized graphic design software to prepare and share designs. Ability to think of new approaches to communicate ideas. Ability to work on multiple projects at the same time, each with a different deadline.

Preferred Qualifications: Experience preparing files for press printing and familiarity with AI image generation. Experience using project management software to complete tasks (SharePoint, Wrike, Basecamp, etc.).
