Job Description


  • Authority

    The Grain Inspector I receives sufficient authority from and is accountable to the Site Supervisor or appointed designate for the successful completion of assigned duties and responsibilities and has the authority to take action necessary to carry out the duties and responsibilities of this position and to identify the occurrence of departures from the quality system or from the procedures for performing tests and/or calibrations, so long as such action does not deviate from established company guidelines, is consistent with sound technical and business judgment and follows the practices of the laboratory.

  • Overall Objectives and Responsibilities
  • Grain Inspectors take on a diverse set of responsibilities to ensure the seamless operation of the facility, which includes tasks such as sample probing, commodity grading, testing, as well as general maintenance.
  • Ensure proper flow of sample testing through the facility and steady flow of grain to the facility.
  • Act as a back-up to Grain Prober/Sampler.
  • Responsible for accuracy in reporting results; record test results and provide information to the client of grain truck driver.
  • Represent Eurofins Grain Inspection to client company by acting as a liaison between facility and client grain company merchandisers.
  • Relay information to the grain operations manager for proper action
  • Process necessary paperwork required by the client company and Eurofins Grain Inspection
  • Inspect and grain grade samples in a timely manner.
  • Test samples of grain by accepted industry practice using visual procedure and computerized equipment, test sample for weight, moisture, foreign material, damage; including potential mycotoxin and non-gmo testing.
  • Assist in training incoming Grain Inspectors in all aspects of grain inspection and respective testing. Assist in evaluating ability and readiness of new inspectors to assume responsibility for testing.
  • Adhere to all health, safety, and environmental regulations relative to assigned analytical work; maintain and assist others in maintaining a clean, safe work environment.
  • Demonstrate ability to operate all required basic lab equipment within department in accordance to USDA grain standards.
  • Maintain a perpetual state of readiness and willingness to respond to the queries and needs of clients, staff, and co-workers.
  • Remain current on technical, industry, and business advancements and trends as suggested by the Department Leader or supervisor.
  • Recommend more accurate or efficient laboratory equipment or procedures.
  • Maintain cooperative working relationships with all company employees. Communicate orally and in writing to co-workers.
  • Promote the company image through the exercising of sound and ethical business practices related to the public and our customers.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

  • Qualifications
    • 18 yrs of age or older
    • Basic math
    • Regular attendance and punctuality to assigned shift
    • Adhere to all industry grading guidelines
    • Integral and accurate recording of tests performed in the lab
    • Basic computer skills
    • Able to work and communicate effectively with our client, customers and staff
    • Perform other duties as assigned with timeliness.

  • Proficient computer skills and; Fluent in Microsoft suite programs (Excel, Outlook, etc.) preferred
  • Initial Education Background
  • High school diploma preferred with 1+years' experience

  • The noise level in the work environment is usually quiet to moderate. Laboratory setting that involves dust, glassware, and others working in close proximity.

    Work Schedule:
    • 6:00 am-12:00pm, M-F; Some Saturdays and Sundays; Seasonal Harvest Hours
