The Global HR (GHR) Director is the internal HR consultant and primary point of contact for global HR matters at Stanford University, responsible for Stanford's global HR policies, procedures, practices, and operational structure. The position works closely with Global Business Services, internal and external legal counsel, HR teams across the university, and Centers of Expertise to ensure policies, processes, and programs meet the needs of Stanford and its employees working outside of the United States.
The GHR Director is co-located with Stanford's central HR organization, working closely with benefits, compensation, employee and labor relations, and employment functions. The role's primary responsibility is to counsel and support client groups in schools and units, including HR leaders, hiring managers, and other stakeholders with Stanford-affiliated employees in 12+ countries around the world.
This position has broad and varied responsibilities collaborating with HR professionals within University Human Resources and the HR community to develop, implement, and deliver strategic initiatives and programs.
This position is eligible for full-time remote work with occasional visits to the Stanford Redwood City campus, subject to operational needs. CORE DUTIES*:

    Collaborate with COEs, and key stakeholders to advise, and influence global centers on issues involving, but not limited to, People Strategy, Employee Relations, Organizational Design and Development, Talent Acquisition, and Coaching.Operate as a trusted advisor by using professional credibility and building strong relationships with global center leaders to influence key priorities and support center HR needs. Develop trusting relationships with center leadership to offer thought leadership on organizational and people-related strategy and execution. Create and lead data-driven initiatives where the impact is significant in supporting global center needs. When required by Stanford's legal status in a country, facilitate the hiring of workers through a third-party payroll agency.Execute and maintain compliant processes for all aspects of the employee life cycle. This includes developing and maintaining job profiles, facilitating talent acquisition, advising on compensation, and coaching and training managers and employees.Consult with unit leadership and counsel to address employee relations issues and the laws relevant to each issue, based on the country of hire and employee's employment contract.Coordinate employment legal counsel in each country where Stanford-affiliated staff are employed.Work on a broad range of HR initiatives and programs in partnership with University Human Resources and local HR partners.

Education & Experience:
    Bachelor's degree and five years relevant experience, or a combination of education and relevant experience
Preferred Experience:
    HR business partner experience working with international locations, desired.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
    Knowledge and demonstrated experience as a consultant and advisor to management in at least four human resources areas, including employee relations, employment and labor law, compensation, staffing and employment, training and development, performance coaching and management, and organizational development.Understanding of the framework in which global professional and academic activities occur, including legal entities and structures, taxation, social welfare systems and mandates, travel and work authorizations, security, and risk management.Capacity to effectively address diverse audiences with varied knowledge and experience with HR/benefit programs, from employees to senior management preferably with some international experience/exposure.Understanding of employment compliance and regulatory environments, including relevant country statutory employment requirements, common work authorization and immigration practices, and social insurances.Skilled in project management including the ability to manage and prioritize the resources and tasks required to support simultaneous deliverables and delivery dates.Ability to facilitate the resolution of complex problems impacting people and programs.Skilled in verbal and written communication, including the ability to provide briefing and training to diverse audiences. Must be able to effectively influence individuals of varying backgrounds and learning styles.Ability to operate independently where appropriate, and understand when to escalate issues.Strong analytical skills and ability to work on basic processes as well as strategic initiatives.Demonstrated proficiency with business applications, such as Microsoft Office Suite, Google Suite, and human resource information systems.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS*:
    Frequently stand/walk, sit, use a computer; use a telephone, grasp lightly/fine manipulation.Occasionally reach/work above shoulders, twist/bend/stoop/squat, grasp forcefully, lift/carry/push/pull objects that weigh up to 10 pounds, write by hand, sort/file paperwork.Rarely kneel/crawl, operate foot and/or hand controls.

The expected pay range for this position is $116,000 - $146,000 per annum. Stanford University provides pay ranges representing its good faith estimate of what the university reasonably expects to pay for a position. The pay offered to a selected candidate will be determined based on factors such as (but not limited to) the scope and responsibilities of the position, the qualifications of the selected candidate, departmental budget availability, internal equity, geographic location, and external market pay for comparable jobs.At Stanford University, base pay represents only one aspect of the comprehensive rewards package.
