The Freight Manager position is a critical role in DuBois Chemicals' logistics structure, serving as the primary liaison for issues regarding hired transportation in all sectors and modes of the business. The position manages all aspects of logistics freight processes including freight pay, audit, tendering, claims processing, and sourcing. A successful manager in this position will create and maintain an efficient network of best-in-class carriers with a strategy to minimize cost and days to deliver across the network. In this position, it will be critical that the manager maintains the distribution and transportation operations that support our global logistics footprint including freight between facilities and direct deliveries to customers. An ideal manager will create an accountability structure within the network and maintain the relationships required to keep the business running efficiently.

Core Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for the management and deployment of our 4PL interface to partner organizations
  • Maintains and manages the Fedex parcel program and Odyssey Logistics relationship
  • Responsible for the freight audit and payment related exercises, ensuring accurate expense management
  • Works directly with export agents to coordinate traffic between DuBois locations and customer accounts internationally
  • Main point of contact for sales, customer service, ops management for freight related questions and concerns
  • Participate in new business discussions regarding support and cost of upcoming lanes
  • Report as needed to executive management the effectiveness and affordability of the freight network
  • Responsible for the total logistics freight budget, required to report as needed on projects to support savings opportunities and reduce headwind
  • Develop methods and procedures for raw material and finished good inbound shipments between our supplier and warehousing facilities
  • Develop and maintain transportation system on domestic and international freight that ensures business needs are met
  • Work with government agencies to overcome any issues in transit that may affect the company
  • Traveling as required to overcome issues in the network or participate in network deployments
  • Enforcing standard operating procedures of document maintenance and coaching of intercompany resources to create a DOT compliant atmosphere
  • Perform related duties as assigned or as the situation dictates
  • Works with our 4PL and 3PL partners to select vendors and negotiates rates and service level commitments
  • Provide quotations and support for new and existing business opportunities as need arises
  • Speak on behalf of the freight networks during events that could cause wide spread disruption, creating tools or developing reports as needed to aid the business
  • Work with warehousing network managers to develop effective schedule of shipments as required to keep the network on time
  • Responsible for the investigation and follow up regarding customer complaints and loss events
  • Documents damages and discrepancies for future reimbursement and reconciliation.

Requirements:

Knowledge and Skill Requirement
  • 5+ years in a Freight management position as a supervisor or higher
  • Knowledge and experience in management of ERP/WMS/TMS software
  • Proficient in standard business office software - Excel, Word, etc.
  • Excellent analytical, problem solving and organizational skills
  • Familiarity with LTL/TL/Bulk/Parcel/International traffic
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Experience working with 3PL and 4PL logistics partners
  • Proven ability to think independently and handle multiple projects through to completion
  • Record of successfully collaborating with and influencing senior management and peers
  • Demonstrated ability to lead and manage staff
  • Able to perform financial calculations and create and manage budgets
