Based in the Office of the Provost, GRI supports a whole of university approach to advance W&M by developing ideas, convening partners, creating and analyzing data, and inventing new methods. The Institute's approach to incubate and scale and applied research helps researchers push research frontiers and produce insights that matter at W&M and beyond. At any time, under the auspices of the Institute, there are several research projects, most grant-funded, with the largest being AidData.
Position Summary:Reporting to the Director of Finance and Administration, this position will develop and manage budgets, manage financial operations, and oversee human resources administration for research labs and initiatives under the Institute. The position is responsible for monitoring, analyzing, and reporting on budgets. Will review and report on unexpected budget issues. Reconciles grant funds, local & private funds, and E&G funds to include preparing monthly reconciliations. This position's duties will require an in-depth understanding, utilization, and management of the budgeting processes, revenue sources, and expenditures.

Required Qualifications:EDUCATION
Bachelor's degree in business, accounting, or finance or equivalent combination of education and experience.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
· Demonstrated experience working with fiscal administration and developing and managing budgets· Intermediate to advanced level proficiency with Excel· Working knowledge of fiscal administration and generally accepted accounting practices and procedures, as well as tracking and projecting expenditures· Experience with financial data analysis and reporting using tools such as Microsoft Excel and Power BI· Strong organizational skills with the demonstrated ability to successfully manage multiple priorities concurrently with competing deadlines· Proven ability to work independently in a fast-paced environment, resolve issues effectively, and exercise sound judgement when making decisions· Strong interpersonal, oral and written communications skills with the ability to work effectively with all levels of a diverse and varied constituency (e.g. principle investigators, administrators, faculty, and students)· Demonstrated skill with automated and productivity systems in the areas of fund management, procurement, and fiscal reporting.· Demonstrated proficiency in computer skills including Internet-based systems and Microsoft Office: Word, Excel, and Outlook.
· Experience managing grants and familiarity with grants and contracts in a university setting in terms of both understanding award language and actual implementation procedures· Experience in higher education, research environment, and/or non-profit fundraising· Experience with Banner Finance, Qlik, Chrome River, BuyW&M· Experience supporting and advising varied levels of constituents· Familiarity with Virginia state policies and procedures· Familiarity with W&M policies and procedures· Several years of progressively responsible financial and budget management experience· Supervisory experience
