Financial Analyst🔍Office of External Relations, Stanford, California, United StatesNew📁Finance📅10 hours ago Post Date📅105567 Requisition #Main Work Location: Arrillaga Alumni Center, Main CampusWork Arrangement: Hybrid (2 days per week on site)Stanford's Office of External Relations aligns the work of Stanford's externally facing teams-the Offices of Development, Government Affairs, University Communications, Community Engagement, and Special Events-and collaborates with partners across the university to enhance existing externally-facing programs and develop new strategies for promoting engagement with and philanthropy and service to the university.The External Relations Finance Department stewards resources totaling over $150 million. In addition to budget and forecast management, the finance team supports gift reporting, fundraising campaign tracking, data analysis, and reporting for the Development Committee of the Board of Trustees. The Office of Development raised $1.6 billion in philanthropy in the last publicly reported fiscal cycle (FY24). The Finance Department also oversees the University's gift-matching programs. The unit provides billet tracking and position-management oversight for approximately six hundred staff under the Central External Relations umbrella.Reporting to the Associate Vice President of Finance, the Financial Analyst will perform moderately complex financial functions requiring specific knowledge of internal policies, external regulations, and multiple operating and gift systems. They will manage several key projects for the team, including personnel tracking and related surveys that require outreach to distributed schools and units across Stanford. They will also serve as the primary financial liaison for multiple External Relations departments, answering questions that come up around day-to-day financial activities as well as issues associated with gifts and pledges. In this role you will:

Have primary responsibility for personnel billet tracking and analysis, which will include building a new management dashboard.Perform structured analyses of data sets; conduct data mining; identify, clarify and investigate discrepancies and exceptions; proactively develop solutions and processes.Maintain, reconcile, review, combine, and validate financial data sets and accounts, utilizing financial reports, financial databases, and key financial information.Contribute to the development of budgets and forecasts, as well as analyses for key activities and decision making.Run and analyze financial reports, often from multiple systems; assist in the preparation of management information reports.Resolve issues within the immediate work unit; perform preliminary analysis, recognize exceptions and recommend solutions that may require policy changes or the development of new processes.Ensure work complies with complex internal policies and external regulations, which may require interpretation.Participate as a member of a project team and contribute to change management strategy through communication and collaboration with others. Understand and participate in cross-training on core functions in work area or unit; serve as a back-up to other functions.Serve as a first-line resource to client groups on matters in the work unit.May supervise the day-to-day activities and provide on-the-job coaching and training to other staff, as needed.

To be successful in this role, you will bring:

Bachelor's degree and two years of relevant experience, or the combination of education and relevant experience.Advanced proficiency in business applications such as the Microsoft Office suite, particularly Excel.User knowledge and demonstrated experience of financial systems; internet and computer expertise.Understanding and the ability to apply basic accounting skills and concepts.Demonstrated communication skills, including the ability to prepare materials for and clearly and effectively communicate information to internal and external audiences and client groups.Basic project management skills and ability to contribute as part of a multi-functional team.Demonstrated commitment to promoting and supporting an environment of diversity and inclusion.

Additional preferred requirements include:

Ability to safeguard confidential information.Experience working with Human Resources (personnel and position) data and labor schedules.Knowledge of university-specific finance and accounting principles.Knowledge of gift terminology and policies.Knowledge of Stanford's financial systems, particularly Oracle Business Intelligence.

The expected pay range for this position is $89,914 - $103,137 per annum.Stanford University provides pay ranges representing its good faith estimate of what the university reasonably expects to pay for a position.
