The Family Clinical Provider will be licensed to work in the State of Tennessee as a Family Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant. Preferred would be a prescriber who is comfortable, educated, and experienced with addiction and recovery, and able to prescribe and manage buprenorphine products alongside providing primary care services. This position will have the responsibility to provide services to clients with substance use disorder employing a harm reduction approach. These services include but are not limited to the following: assess, diagnose, plan, implement, intervene, manage and evaluate plans of care - including treatment of typical conditions addressed via primary care (high blood pressure, diabetes, etc.) as well as conditions more prevalent among people with drug use disorders (viral hepatitis, injection wound site infections, etc.). They will also be accountable for working as a part of an interdisciplinary care including behavioral health counselors, physicians, peer recovery workers, and case-managers. Serving as a preceptor to nursing students may also be expected as needed. This is a full-time position working in Nashville, TN via telehealth, mobile health clinic, and in-clinic.

Daily Operations

  • Assists in the development, implementation and evaluation of addiction treatment services provided to patients
  • Supervise buprenorphine treatment for clients as well as providing primary care services in coordination with the Medical Director and/or primary physician, when indicated by client's medical condition.
  • Provide supervision to any nurse/medical staff and students of the facility
  • Maintains clinical records and required paperwork in compliance with agency standards.
  • Evaluation and Diagnosis- see patients, perform physicals, order and interpret lab work and determine diagnoses, manage chronic illnesses
  • Attends all appropriate client care conferences and staff meetings. Be courteous, tactful, and discrete in relating to the public, other staff, and clients.
  • Ensures client participation in care planning and service coordination
  • Acquires, maintains, and practices skills regarding sensitivity to the cultural and socioeconomic backgrounds of clients and others contacted in carrying out job responsibilities.
  • Participates in agency training activities as required.
  • Provides didactic training on substance use disorder and treatment to residents and students rotating through the clinic

Required Skills
  • Well organized and detail oriented
  • Ability to effectively communicate to management and public groups.
  • Excellent written, verbal and telephone skills
  • Literacy and experience with computer office programs (MS Work, MS Excel, MS Outlook)
  • A knowledge and understanding of substance abuse treatment and recovery.
  • Skills and competence to establish supportive trusting relationships and respect for clients' right to self-determination and their personal preferences in treatment is essential.
  • Respects and protects client's rights (including confidentiality) and ensures that client's respect the rights of others by appropriately intervening and /or reporting when program rule violations occur.

Required Education and Experience
  • Licensed by the State of Tennessee as a Registered Nurse with Advanced Practice certification or Physician Assistant
  • Current American Nursing Credentialing Center (ANCC) certification in family nursing health specialty area or National Commission on Certification on Physician Assistant (NCCPA)
  • Nurse Practitioner must have Buprenorphine Waiver
  • Have experience with addiction
  • Family Nurse Practitioner with active, unrestricted Tennessee medical license or Physician Assistant with active, unrestricted Tennessee medical license
  • DEA Certification
