GENERAL SUMMARY/ OVERVIEW STATEMENT:

The Equity Coordinator is an integral member of the NEW Health team, working to facilitate the Health Center's diversity equity and inclusion (DEI) programs and initiatives. The Equity coordinator's objectives are to support the management of communications with internal and external stakeholders across all aspects of NEW Health with a specific focus on DEI, including marketing and educational materials and social media content. The coordinator will liaison with NEW Health leadership and MGB departments to identify and disseminate opportunities for implementing policies and creating an environment that is more inclusive and consistent for staff and patients. The coordinator will establish and maintain solid working relationships with all levels of management and employees and work to address diversity and equity issues strategically and proactively with a goal creating a more inclusive workplace and environment of care for our patients. The coordinator will work across all departments to support and improve the delivery of equitable healthcare, reducing health disparities and inequities, and supporting quality and performance improvement projects across the organization.

PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Support the development and oversight of NEW Health's communications content with a focus on DEI:

• NEW Health's website, online presence, social media, and marketing strategies.
• Communications supporting health center programs and initiatives.
• Internal and external communication strategies.
• Craft and execute internal and external DEI communications.
• Provide excellent strategic communications guidance to NEW Health leadership to support organizational efforts towards building an equitable system of care and organizational culture.
• Collaborate with Public Relations staff on regular staff communications as needed, including monthly staff electronic newsletter.
• Respond to communications in a timely manner.
• Serve as Health Center Patient Advocate. Manage patient complaints and grievances.
• Serve as the chair of the DEI committee and represent the Health Center in DEI programs and initiatives.
• Coordinate the planning, implementation and logistics of regular DEI events, trainings, and meetings with a focus on developing a comprehensive training pathway on anti-racism and structural equity, which will provide staff consistent and continuous training opportunities, tailored to their responsibilities that support and challenge learners to develop and apply equity-based practices.
• Work to educate administrative leadership on the benefits of creating a diverse workforce and the value of verifying race and ethnicity of staff in order to monitor retention and advancement. Support departments in working through issues that impact staff and patient experience.
• Keep abreast of best practices and current trends in diversity and inclusion recruitment and bring the knowledge to inform recruitment activities at NEW Health. Bring best practices to department heads to support systemic strategies and actions.
• Provide data-related support and help report progress toward DEI strategy goals.
• Sit on the quality committee as the equity quality lead and support quality targets and goals.
• Work with the clinical teams in identifying health disparities and helping to identify activities for our provider staff to provide care in a more equitable manner and break down barriers to care.
• Attend internal and external meetings, including those that strengthen NEW Health's partnerships with state and national organizations doing DEI/equity work.
• Support and engage in audits and surveys as assigned by manager (i.e. Joint Commission, HRSA OSV, DPH, C3)
• Support and collaborate on population health strategies and activities

Qualifications
QUALIFICATIONS:

• B.A./B.S. and 5+ years of related experience required with at least one year of experience with professional development, diversity and/or equity.

SKILLS/ ABILITIES/ COMPETENCIES REQUIRED:

• The ideal candidate will have excellent organizational and leadership abilities.
• Can be flexible and work comfortably both independently, and as part of a team with other Health Center and external stakeholders.
• Strong familiarity with best practices for health equity and organizational culture.
• Demonstrated success developing DEI strategic communications plans.
• Excellent analytical and time-management skills.
• Strong project management skills with ability to supervise multiple projects.
• Proficient computer skills including Microsoft Office Suite.
• Ability to work nonstandard hours, attend occasional events in the evening and on weekends, and travel to off-site events as necessary.
• Strong knowledge of communication practices and techniques.
• Outstanding written and verbal communication skills with the ability to deliver clear, concise, effective, and accurate messaging on a wide variety of topics for broad audiences.
• Interest in the development of diversity, equity, and inclusion, especially within a healthcare environment.
• Bilingual or multicultural perspectives are a strong plus.
• Ability to work well with staff across and at all levels withing the organization.
• Comfortable challenging the status quo and bringing forward creative solutions.
• Actively seek and incorporate ideas/feedback from others.
• Enthusiastic and focused on creating a community within marginalized communities including Black Indigenous People of Color (BIPOC), first-gen, LGBTQIA, and disability communities.
• Ability to handle sensitive/confidential information.
• Ability to think creatively, both in terms of problem-solving and program planning/execution.
