Neurology

Our practices are located at 10 Members Way in Dover, NH, and 121 Corporate Drive, Portsmouth, NH. This position will support our expert providers treating adult patients, as well as children ages 13+. Our services include diagnosis and treatment options for headaches, migraines, epilepsy, stroke, neuromuscular disease, sleep disorders and more.

The Opportunity

We are seeking a full-time, 40-hour Electromyography Technician (EMG Tech)to join our Neurology team! This role will be based in both Dover and Portsmouth, so the ability to reliably commute to either site is necessary. The operating hours for the two locations are Monday-Friday 8:00am-5:00pm, so schedules will be staggered accordingly.

Responsibilities

  • Operate EMG equipment to test the electrical activity of muscle disease or denervation to determine the conduction of velocity and latency times of peripheral motor and sensory nerves and to assist physician in perform the more advanced EMG techniques utilized in specific neurological diseases.
  • Confer with patient to obtain medical history information.
  • Explain procedure to assure cooperation and optimum test results.
  • Prepare patients for EMG procedure: apply electrodes to proper position of the body.
  • Compute and record graphic data in accordance with established procedures; analyze and calculate results of tests and prepare preliminary report of findings.
  • Caliber and clean equipment in accordance with standardized procedures.
  • Prepare patients for examination and treatment and obtains chief complaint.
  • Assists the Neurodiagnostic Physician with EMG studies as needed by preparing or manipulating the instrument and recording findings.
  • Demonstrates knowledge of the peripheral nervous system, diseases related to neurodiagnostic medicine, instrumentation, basic electronics and electronical safety.
  • Obtain patients history, vital signs and records accurately in the Electronic Medical Record.
  • Assist with patient exams, procedures and collection of specimens as assigned.
  • Retrieves laboratory and radiology test results and instructs patients regarding medications and treatment per physicians' instructions.
  • Understands and interprets current immunization schedule, administers injections safely.
  • Stocks supplies and prepares exam rooms and instruments for examinations, testing or minor procedures.
  • Demonstrates positive patient-appropriate interpersonal skills with patients, physician staff, and other hospital/clinic staff members.
  • Responds to incoming calls if necessary.
  • Participates in staff development and educational activities.
  • Attend required meetings and participate in committees as requested.
  • Performs Autonomic testing
    • Prepares patient for testing.
    • Explains each autonomic test component to the patient and assures they understand what to expect, how to communicate during the exam and why the test has been ordered.
    • Sets up the patient room with all necessary equipment before the patients test time.
    • Performs exam autonomic test and records observations in real time.
    • Correctly places EKG leads and electrodes to acquire a diagnostically accurate EKG.
    • Measure heart rate and blood pressure of patient who will be exposed to a variety of stimuli that are controlled by the technologist such as deep breathing, active standing, and passive head-up tilt on tilt table.
    • Performs sympathetic skin response test to evaluate and record galvanic response from the skin.
  • All other duties as assigned.
We do our best to keep all employees in their assigned practices and locations; however, you may also be asked to float to other departments in the WHP system when appropriate and needed during times of staffing shortages/other extenuating circumstances for cross-coverage purposes and to ensure adequate coverage and support.

Qualifications
Qualifications

Education:
  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Education through an Accredited Neurodiagnostic Technology program or have at least 6 months experience involving training in both practical applicants and theory directly related to Nerve Conduction Studies (NCS)
Experience:
  • 1 year direct patient interaction required
  • Supervised work experience in EMG lab at least for 2 months as EMG technician.
Licensure:
  • One year to receive CERTNA or AACE Certifications.
  • Certification from the AAMA, NCCT or RMA required. Or the ability to obtain certification within 90 days of hire date.
  • BLS certification required.
