Job Description:

The Division of Advancement is pleased to announce three openings on the Academic Initiatives team at the Development Officer or Assistant Director level.

These positions will serve as the Advancement liaison to one or more strategic University priority fundraising initiatives to advance fundraising activity in coordination with program leads and fundraisers; and will provide for the strategic management of an individual portfolio of leadership gift prospects and donors who are capable of making gifts of $50,000-$500,000 or more to the University ($50,000 - 250,000+ at the Development Officer level and $50,000 - $500,000+ at the Assistant Director level). Additionally, these positions may assist, or serve as a secondary liaison, for a high-level university priority under the management and direction of a more senior-level colleague. Specific assignments will vary over time depending upon the changing complexity and scope of initiatives, fundraising goals, and evolving priorities as determined by University leadership.

As a liaison, the incumbent will serve as a content expert and principal point of contact in the advancement of the assigned priority areas, working closely with the program leadership to build, execute, and maintain a robust strategic fundraising program, and defining a menu of fundraising opportunities. An essential element of the position will include collaborating with fundraising colleagues to build a robust pipeline of prospects and donors to enhance the long-term potential for fundraising success for the priority areas.

Specific responsibilities include:

  • Ensuring strategic prospective and current donor engagement; prioritizing involvement for on-campus and campus Advancement-related events; and coordinating the preparation of reports, briefings, and other materials in support of Advancement efforts.
  • Planning and implementing a collaborative fundraising approach that maximizes support for programmatic and capital initiatives for the assigned areas.
  • Serving as the liaison between other staff in the Division of Advancement and the leadership and, as appropriate, faculty in these areas to optimize prospect development and engagement. Liaisons may also manage development tasks for Advisory Councils and support annual fund strategy and messaging.

As a gift officer, fundraising responsibilities will include:
  • Effective prospect and donor relationship management of high-level alumni, parents, and friends, including field qualification, cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship.
  • Development of solicitation strategies and closure of leadership and major gifts aligned with University fundraising priorities.
  • Effective collaboration and partnership with colleagues and Advancement leadership; planning, staffing, and following up with University administrators and faculty on development visits with prospects and donors; and comprehensive oversight and documentation of all fundraising activities, contacts, proposals, strategic plans, and stewardship.

Brown University is committed to advancing diversity, inclusion, and equity and is an Affirmative Action/Equal Opportunity Employer.
