Dental Assistant to provide advanced chairside procedures in four handed dental treatment in a dental program that serves special needs adults with intellectual/developmental disabilities in the Nisonger Center Dental Program at McCampbell Hall; performs chairside procedures; provides assistance to the dentist; provides indirect patient treatment; maintains inventory of supplies and materials; maintains equipment; performs general clerical and outreach tasks.

Minimum Education Required:

Per Classified Civil Svc Specs

High School diploma or GED. Certification or vocational training may be preferred, or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Required Qualifications:

Candidate must be able to: use of both hands, dexterity in the fingers and the ability to manipulate instruments, materials, dental hand pieces, and operate dental equipment. The use of feet is necessary to manipulate the rheostat for hand pieces or other dental equipment and the ability to sit and stand for duration of time is also necessary; frequent lifting/pulling/pushing of at least 50lbs; frequent bending/twisting/turning/reaching below knees and above shoulders; and involves frequent standing/walking.

Demonstrates ability to work well with others as part of a fast-paced team and shows compassion to special needs patients with ID/DD.

This position serves as a primary chairside assistant in four-handed treatment of patients, sterilizes instruments in accordance with OSHA regulations; maintains patient records and clinic files; enters data, cleans and maintains dental operatories and labs; performs treatment set up, takes alginate impressions, pours casts and takes x-rays; maintains clinic inventories.

Must be registered with the Ohio Dental Board as a Dental Assistant Radiographer (Active Dental X-Ray License).

1 year of relevant experience required. 2-4 years of relevant experience preferred.

Final candidates are subject to successful completion of a background check.

A drug screen or physical may be required during the post offer process.

Individuals in this position may be exposed to the following: blood borne pathogens; chemical hazards (skin irritants); vibrating equipment; use of sharp instruments and latex.
