Job Description

The Sr. data analyst will work under the guidance of investigators in the Center for Biomedical Image Computing and Analytics (http://www.cbica.upenn.edu/, CBICA), Director, Christos Davatzikos, PhD.
The Data Analyst Sr. will:
* Design experiments, test hypotheses, and build statistical/machine learning models.
* Conduct exploratory as well as advanced data analysis.
* Apply advanced statistical and predictive modeling techniques to develop data-driven solutions for difficult research challenges.
* Develop innovative and effective approaches to solve challenges with heterogeneous data.
* Develop experimental design approaches to validate findings or test hypotheses.
* Lead the design and deployment of novel image processing algorithms.
* Apply, test and validate existing algorithms.
* Design and develop innovative solutions to streamline medical image processing workflows.
* Quantify and provide descriptive, analytical reports using data visualization techniques.
* Mentor and lead junior data analysts, fostering a collaborative and inclusive lab environment.
* Coordinate multiple research projects.

* Manage and consolidate clinical data.

* Manage and conduct quality control and analysis of genetic data.
* Contributing and supporting the writing of manuscripts for peer-reviewed journals.

* Stay up to date with the latest scientific advancements in neurogenerative disease research and incorporate innovative approaches into research strategies.
* Build and maintain strategic, high-level relationships across the University as well as external collaborators to leverage resources and maintain knowledge of new or emerging technologies and solutions.
* Strong computational skills (knowledge of Python and/or Matlab, statistical analysis packages, advanced shell scripting, experience in Unix platform) will be preferred. Strong problem solving and organizational skills are a must. Experience with medical images is a plus.
CBICA has been a dynamically growing medical image analysis group, including several laboratories and many collaborators from diverse fields. Opportunities exist
in many existing and new projects, including computational neuroanatomy of aging and neurodegenerative diseases, major depressive disorder and psychosis.

Qualifications
Bachelor's Degree in Biomedical engineering, Mathematics, Statistics/Biostatistics, Neuroscience, Applied Physics, Computer Science/Informatics, or related data science field, and 4-5 years of experience or equivalent combination of education and experience is required.

A Master's Degree is preferred.

* Publication record in the areas of biomedical imaging is desirable. Strong computational skills (knowledge of Python and/or Matlab, statistical analysis packages, advanced shell scripting, experience in Unix platform) and strong problem solving and organizational skills are a must.

* Experience creating and using advanced machine learning algorithms and statistics.

* Experience working with medical images is required.

* Excellent written and verbal communication skills for coordinating across teams and experience in leading teams.

* Excellent teamwork and collaboration skills are needed to support multiple projects led by individual principal investigators.

* Confidentiality of all HIPAA-related Personal Health Information (PHI) at all times required.

* Must be able to exercise initiative and judgment in setting priorities and working independently.

“The job pay range encompasses the full range of employees from new hires to the salaries of Penn employees with many years of experience and seniority and is not a precise indicator of salaries of new hires when looking at the top end. Based on what we pay employees coming into this position our pay range is 80,000-100,000 based on education and experience above the minimum qualifications."

Data Scientist position (additional tasks):

Summary:

Responsible for applying data science tools and methods to research tasks. Collects and extracts data using a variety of data extraction tools (e.g., web-scraping, data mining). Independently carries out data management, visualization, wrangling, and analysis tasks. Assists faculty, staff, and/or other academic workers with collaborative high-density data projects, providing organization of tasks and workflows for programmatic needs. Troubleshoots issues and identifies solutions.

Job Responsibilities

  • Independently designs, implements, tests, deploys, documents, and maintains machine learning algorithms, applications, analysis pipelines, and results reporting methodologies
  • Mine various data resources for development of key metrics, performance indicators, and general business intelligence useful to planning and service design.
  • Visualize complex data by creating figures, tables, maps, and infographics for research projects
  • Maintain knowledge of cutting-edge methods and best practices for leveraging data science tools and resources
  • Perform advanced data analysis tasks for academic research projects


Qualifications
  • Master of Science and 1 to 2 years of experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience
