Appointees will report to the Director of Cytogenetics and the Vice Chair for Clinical Pathology. These are on-site positions at the University of Chicago's Hyde Park campus located 7 miles south of the Loop near the shore of Lake Michigan. These positions do not require teaching or scholarly activity. Compensation (including a generous package of fringe benefits) is dependent on qualifications.

The Cytogenetics laboratory offers both constitutional testing for prenatal and postnatal indications as well as cancer cytogenetics with an extensive testing menu including FISH, karyotype, and chromosomal SNP microarray. Additional opportunities are available in our Molecular Pathology laboratory for candidates with appropriate training and certification. The Molecular Pathology laboratory at the University of Chicago offers targeted molecular testing, RNA sequencing, and NGS for comprehensive tumor profiling.

The department of Pathology at the University of Chicago has a long history of excellence. Appointees will join a vibrant and distinguished community of faculty colleagues and learners and will have the opportunity to collaborate widely across the Biological Sciences Division (BSD), UChicago Medicine, the Pritzker School of Medicine, and the University of Chicago and its affiliates. We pride ourselves on career development and provide resources and mentoring support to ensure the success of our faculty members.

Responsibilities include:

  • Daily review and interpretation of results of chromosome analysis, FISH, and chromosomal microarray; generate and sign out patient reports
  • Assist in overseeing daily operations of the Cytogenetics laboratory including technical troubleshooting, ensuring compliance with laboratory policies and standard operating procedures, regulations imposed by the State of Illinois, and CAP and CLIA certification requirements
  • Assist in the development of new tests and clinical assay validations
  • Communicate with genetic counselors and referring providers as needed
  • Work with the Section Director on quality initiatives, test development and utilization, and overall improvement of clinical services provided by the Cytogenetics laboratory
Candidates will have a PhD, MD, or MD/PhD degree. The University of Chicago's unique approach to clinical testing and patient reporting requires that applicants be ABMGG or CCMG board certified or board eligible in Clinical Cytogenetics or Laboratory Genetics and Genomics (LGG) prior to employment. Experience in clinical cytogenetics is highly desired but newly certified or board eligible LGG candidates will be considered. Candidates must have strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to work both independently and as part of a diverse and dynamic team.

To be considered, those interested must apply through the University of Chicago's Academic Recruitment job board, which uses Interfolio to accept applications: http://apply.interfolio.com/132914.
