Position Summary:

Flexible work arrangements, including virtual/hybrid work locations, are an integral part of the School of Medicine's Working Forward initiative. As such, this position's work location is designated as hybrid. Please note that the designated work location is subject to change based on the unit's business needs.

The Clinical Research Coordinator will perform all aspects of study execution, from participant recruitment to data management, for assigned studies. The RCMU supports clinical studies for PIs across the UNC research enterprise, offering staff experience in a variety of therapeutic areas and with different trial designs and study populations. There is also significant opportunity for professional development in the areas of study start-up, regulatory support, staff training, and project management.

We are seeking a coordinator with a comprehensive scope of research knowledge who has a desire to grow and expand their expertise, abilities, and impact on UNC research. The ideal candidate will work well both independently and as part of a team, possessing both problem-solving initiative and willingness to learn from and collaborate with colleagues. This position requires excellent organizational skills, attention to detail, and an ability to communicate effectively.

The candidate should have applied knowledge of GCP and CFR and be able to understand and confidently execute complex protocols. Day to day duties may include, but are not limited to: recruitment and enrollment of study participants, protocol execution, collection and maintenance of data, specimen collection and processing, IRB submissions, REDCap database creation, study tracking and reporting, quality assurance and control, maintenance of GCP and compliance with all regulatory bodies, identification and mitigation of potential issues with processes or protocols, and other duties as assigned.

Minimum Education and Experience Requirements:

Bachelor's degree in a discipline related to the field assigned and one year of related training or experience; or equivalent combination of training and experience. All degrees must be received from appropriately accredited institutions.

Required Qualifications, Competencies, and Experience:

- Experience as a clinical research assistant, coordinator and/or project manager
- Working knowledge of research best practices and regulations and ability to apply that knowledge to ensure compliance of research protocols and study execution with applicable regulations and ethical principles
- Demonstrated ability to successfully and independently navigate assigned duties
- Excellent organizational skills, attention to detail, and the ability to successfully balance multiple competing priorities and deadlines
- Strong communication skills with a focus on customer service and the ability to communicate effectively and tactfully with a variety of colleagues
- Proficiency with Microsoft Outlook, Excel, and Word
- Knowledge of clinical research principles, design, methods and analysis
- Ability to collect, document, and manage study data efficiently and accurately
- Ability to develop and maintain positive relationships with study participants, investigators, and other staff
- Ability to appropriately track study progress, identify trends, gaps, and/or areas for improvement, communicate those to the study investigator(s) and make recommendations for improvements

Preferred Qualifications, Competencies, and Experience:

- Experience as a clinical research coordinator or project manager at UNC
- Experience with systems such as Epic, REDCap, and CRMS
- Experience with both federal and industry sponsors
- Experience in varied clinical areas
- Professional research coordination certification (CCRC, CCRP) or willingness to obtain certification
- Fluency in Spanish that can be applied in a medical setting
