The University of Iowa healthcare Department of Nursing is seeking a 100% Clinical Coordinator to join the Neurosurgery Clinic.
The University of Iowa Health Care Neurosurgery Clinic is ready to welcome a collaborative, compassionate self-starter to lead our ongoing effort to improve clinical care coordination, specialized nursing care, and clinical education of nursing staff and health professionals. The Clinical Coordinator (CC) will lead in the daily operations of surgical coordination for the Neurosurgery Department and will aid nursing personnel in providing specialized care to the neurosurgical patient population.
Responsibilities:
- Collaborates with nursing, medical staff and other health professionals in the development and review of standards and in planning, implementing, and evaluating patient care for the Neurosurgery patient population
- Independently coordinates and facilitates patient care between multiple disciplines within both the confines of UIHC and the community (including home health agencies, referring physicians and other community support services)
- Coordinates patient care to better utilize supportive services through patient visit and possible admission, pre-schedules testing, follows up with test results to both patient and physician, obtains medical history, coordinates follow up visit appointment, provides medication, rehab teaching, etc
- Facilitates care of Neurosurgery patients requiring admission, coordinating necessary admission procedures, pre and post procedure care
- Operates autonomously in communicating with members of the health care team directing patient care and providing continuity of care across settings throughout the phases of care
- Performs telephone triage of patient calls to the Neurosurgery service and facilitates medication refills as needed
- Collaborates with nursing, medical staff, and other health professionals in planning, delivering, and evaluating care for specialty patient populations
- Provides direct patient cate/nurse triage responsibilities as needed throughout the Neurosurgery Clinic
- Performs clinical duties, special projects and other tasks as needed.
Percent of Time: 100%
Schedule: Monday-Friday, 8 hour shifts between the hours of 7:30am - 5:30pm. No holidays, nights, or weekends.

Pay Grade: 4B

Requirements: - Baccalaureate Degree in Nursing is required
- Current License to practice Nursing
- 1-3 years of nursing experience
- Previous experience coordinating/scheduling patient visits
- Demonstrated experience of coordinating care along the healthcare continuum
- Demonstrated experience in patient education
- Excellent organization and time management skills
- Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills
- Demonstrates leadership and training skills
- Proficient in computer skills (i.e. word, excel, powerpoint, access)
Desired Qualifications: - Master's Degree in Nursing (MSN, MA), or Masters of Nursing and Healthcare Practice (MNHP) is encouraged
- Demonstrated expertise in Neurosurgery
- Professional nursing certification
- Familiarity with UIHC and ambulatory clinic workflows
