CHILD/ADOLESCENT THERAPIST, E PAULDING PEDIATRIC BEHAVIORAL HEALTH

As we continue to expand our behavioral health services, the Wellstar Medical Group (WMG) and Wellstar's Behavioral Health Service Line (BHSL) are pleased to announce a new position for a child/adolescent therapist/counselor to support our new ambulatory behavioral health clinic in Dallas, Georgia. This clinician will work collaboratively alongside a team of child/adolescent therapists, practicing in an outpatient clinic that is integrated into a pediatric medical practice. This clinician will provide outpatient support for children/adolescents who are experiencing a variety of emotional/behavioral conditions. The therapist will employ evidence-based interventions to help young patients manage their symptoms, and to equip their parents/guardians with the skills needed to optimize treatment gains.

Compensation: Wellstar offers a competitive compensation package. Total compensation is comprised of a base salary and annual quality bonus.

Setting: A member of the Mayo Clinic Network, Wellstar Health System is a not-for-profit 11-hospital system, recognized as one of the most integrated health systems in the United States. Wellstar is the largest health system in Georgia.

The therapist assuming this role will provide services within a new pediatric outpatient behavioral health clinic in Dallas, Georgia. The clinic has been built within a wing of a large pediatric medical practice and is equipped with a behavioral health waiting room and clinical offices designed to foster a private but collaborative experience. The composition of the practice will include 1-2 child/adolescent psychiatrists, a therapist, and 1-2 pediatric psychologists. The team will collaborate daily to coordinate care and ensure that patients and their families receive are defined by quality, compassion, and ease of access.

Operational support for this position will include practice management, front office and billing support, and ancillary clinical resources. The operations will originate within the Wellstar Medical Group's Behavioral Health division.

Duties/Responsibilities: The candidate we are seeking will need a diverse skill set with focused experiences working with children and adolescents with a variety of emotional and behavioral conditions. The responsibilities include:

  • Regular meetings with the Medical Director to coordinate care
  • Developing and managing treatment plans that are unique to each patient's needs
  • Providing individual (and possibly group) counseling to children with various psychiatric illnesses and developmental conditions
  • Developing diagnostic conceptualizations
  • Consulting with other members of the treatment team as needed to corroborate clinical impressions and treatment plans
  • Utilizing evidence-based interventions/therapies to optimize treatment outcomes
  • Referring to clinic psychiatrists for medication management when appropriate
  • Referring to clinic psychologists for more in-depth diagnostic testing when appropriate
  • Adopting consistent workflows that optimize communication with the treatment team
  • Documenting patient encounters on the same day as care is provided
  • Developing safety plans that involve both the patient, family, and other resources as needed in the event that crises emerge
  • Communicating proactively with parents/guardians to fully engage the family in care
  • Demonstrating clinical outcomes
  • Coordinating care with other members of the behavioral health care team
  • Providing occasional lunch-and-learns for medical staff members
  • Respecting the confidentiality of all patient information and conforming to hospital/departmental policies on the handling and disclosure of patient information;
  • Attending and participating in team meetings
  • Maintaining licensure and needed, relevant continuing education through local, regional and national forums

Skills Needed: The ideal candidate will possess advanced therapeutic skills with children/adolescents, ages 5 through 17. The clinician should have good diagnostic skills and proficiency in managing anxiety disorders, depressive disorders, trauma, adjustment-related, developmental, and other conditions. (S)He should have focused training in evidence-based treatments. This position requires the ability to provide crisis support, short-term, behavior-modification based treatment, and longer-term treatments. It is imperative that the clinician possess advanced cultural competencies and understand how to apply their repertoire of clinical skills to the population treated. (S)he should be a collaborator with other clinical team members and possess an openness to receive supervision/clinical support as needed. To work most effectively in this environment, the candidate should possess basic familiarity with medical nomenclature, and work effectively with pediatric medical providers, patients, and their families. The clinician will possess good judgment, knowing when to seek supervision/consultation. (S)He will have a high level of initiative and be a self-starter in daily professional activities. The candidate will need to be well-versed in the code of ethics that corresponds with their clinical training and license, and understand the application of ethics within a medical setting. Crisis management, while not a high-frequency responsibility, should be within the skillset of this clinician.

Required Minimum Education: (1) hold a Masters degree in social work, professional counseling, or marriage & family therapy from a program accredited by the appropriate accrediting body, (2) possess active licensure as a clinical social worker, professional counselor, or marriage & family therapist (i.e. LCSW/LPC/LMFT) in the State of Georgia, and (3) have no less than 3 years of experience providing therapy with children/adolescents with various emotional/behavioral conditions.
