A DAY IN THE LIFE
Our Chemist - Data Validator position is located in the Phoenixville, PA office (close to King of Prussia and Valley Forge). ** REMOTE position possible for candidates with sufficient directly relevant experience.
The Chemist - Data Validator role is for a professional and experienced, non-laboratory-based environmental chemist working on environmental analytical data validation, data management, and/or environmental laboratory coordination. Our clients are big and small, private industry and government (EPA, DoD).
As a key member of the team, this role will be responsible for a full range of activities, including:

- Review analytical data generated by environmental laboratories in an organized and efficient manner, consistent with and as prescribed by corporate and US EPA data validation standard operating procedures, quality assurance project plans, and published analytical methods;
- Prepare data quality and data usability assessment reports, which will undergo peer review by the project manager and/or senior chemistry staff;
- Communicate with laboratory personnel to ensure proper processing of the samples while under laboratory custody and to correct/understand irregular elements encountered during the review of the analytical data;
- Assist with the preparation of Quality Assurance Project Plans (QAPPs) to ensure laboratory capabilities and sample collection procedures are appropriate for project data quality requirements;
- Receive and review electronic data from the laboratories, upload analytical data into project databases, generate data summary tables, and communicate with laboratory personnel regarding issues associated with the laboratory's electronic deliverables;
- Act as a liaison between field personnel and laboratories, ensuring that samples are collected appropriately, submitted to laboratories capable of meeting project needs, and reported consistently with project requirements;
- Have professional and proactive communication both internally and externally with clients and client contractors;
- Maintain confidentiality at all times;
- Exercise safe work practices by following all Company safety rules and OSHA regulations, including attendance at all required safety training programs;
- Participate in the company's continuous improvement programs and provide support to team efforts;
- Keep up-to-date and current on industry trends by completing formal training, reviewing professional publications, and attending professional workshops; and
- Perform other duties as assigned depending on your skill set and interests.
YOUR EXPERTISE AND SKILLSTo perform this job successfully, individuals must be able to perform each duty and responsibility satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.
- Bachelor's degree in Chemistry or an allied science from an accredited college or university;
- 5+ years of environmental analytical data validation experience or environmental analytical laboratory experience focused primarily on environmental analyses and quality assurance review;
- Able to review environmental laboratory data for completeness; correctness; compliance against the published analytical methods; and usability by utilizing corporate data validation standard operating procedures, US EPA and/or State data validation guidelines, and Quality Assurance Project Plans (QAPPs);
- A strong understanding of US EPA methods for the preparation and analysis of environmental samples is desired;
- Possess a good understanding of analytical chemistry principles and be able to apply to data quality assurance reviews;
- Previous work with the Department of Defense, State/local government, or work in environmental chemistry is a plus;
- Possess a strong understanding of data usability principles and their application to environmental data review;
- Familiarity with automated data review tools is strongly desired;
- Familiarity with UFP and State/EPA Region Brownfields QAPP formats is desired;
- Familiarity with environmental data management systems such as EQuIS is desired;
- Strong written and verbal communication skills;
- Strong analytical and critical thinking skills;
- Computer literate - capable of performing tasks such as: creating spreadsheets, composing correspondence, and creating reports and documents using desktop software;
- Advanced skills with Microsoft Office Suite;
- Strong knowledge of Adobe® Acrobat;
- Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions; and
- Meticulous attention to detail and ability to focus on individual tasks while collaborating with your peers
