The Stanford Center for Definitive and Curative Medicine (CDCM) is seeking an Operations Manager to lead and administer programs for the CDCM, which is focused on the translation of world-class science into novel treatment therapies. The Operations Manager will report to the Director of Strategy and Operations and closely collaborate with CDCM physician leadership, key internal and external stakeholders, and researchers across the School of Medicine and University.

The CDCM combines the promise and expertise of world-class principal investigators at Stanford with the translational capabilities to create the bridge from bench to bedside for truly innovative cell and gene therapies. The Operations Manager will provide the organization structure and daily operations to make sure the CDCM is running efficiently, with smooth effective service that meets the expectations of CDCM leadership and stakeholders. They will oversee all communications (including supervision of the Communications Manager), coordinate team, leadership and all-hands meetings, overseeing agendas, setting priorities, and ensuring key members are present. They will proactively identify and resolve issues that arise within operations; lead the change management process for operational efficiency as issues are identified by operational metrics, CDCM leadership, Investigators or stakeholder feedback.

This position will involve regular communication and engagement with faculty, study teams, industry partners and other University stakeholders. Cross-team coordination, project management and executive level problem-solving and communication skills with be key to success.

The CDCM collaborates with a variety of programs and teams; the Operations Manager contributes to the development of outreach strategy by initiating and maintaining interactions with a variety of functioning organizations; this will include relationship development and communications with entities such as the School of Medicine Dean's Office, Laboratory for Cell and Gene Medicine, Institute for Stem Cell Biology and Regenerative Medicine, Stanford Children's Hospital, Stanford Hospital, Innotive Medicines Accelerator, and the Office of Technology Licensing.

Duties include:

  • With the Director of Strategy and Operations, implement, administer and evaluate day-to-day planning and operations of the CDCM programs that have significant business, regulatory and/or technical challenges requiring subject matter expertise.

  • Work closely with the Director of Strategy and Operations to handle revenue for all Center initiatives, including but not limited to: creating and monitoring grant budgets and grant-related financial information; processing and tracking donations; tracking use of restricted funds; producing revenue reports. Participate in development of budgets / oversee budgets and monitor and approve expenditures.

  • Communicate program status, funding status and issues to ensure timely decision-making by senior leadership

  • Coordinate with business development and/or industry partner to ensure appropriate information and materials are provided to facilitate development of project or collaboration.

  • Achieve operational excellence and drive process improvement

  • Review and analyze trends, create reports and advise and develop effective goals of the day-to-day program, administration and policy formulation.

  • Evaluate, analyze and interpret policies and procedures; identify issues and develop alternative solutions, which may include changes to CDCM policies and procedures.

  • Represent the CDCM within Stanford University and to other external constituencies. Organize and/or participate in outreach activities that may include communications, events, training, and/or conferences.

  • Will direct and supervise administrative staff; responsible for human resources management including hiring process, performance management process, health and safety compliance; and space and facilities management.

    DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Education or experience in the field of immunology, stem cell biology or other biological sciences preferred.

  • Ability to produce Gantt Charts and other project management tools

  • General understanding of the research process including but not limited to; the development of protocol, implementation of a successful research project, and management project plans and coordinating teamwork assignments

  • EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE (REQUIRED):

    Bachelor's degree and three years of relevant experience, or combination of education and relevant experience.

  • Demonstrated ability to prioritize own work and multi-task.

  • Ability to direct the work of others, for jobs requiring supervision.
  • PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS*:

  • Constantly perform desk-based computer tasks.

  • Frequently stand/walk, sitting, grasp lightly/fine manipulation.

  • Occasionally use a telephone.

  • Rarely lift/carry/push/pull objects that weigh 11-20 pounds.

    WORKING CONDITIONS:

  • Occasional evening and weekend hours.

  • Stanford University provides pay ranges representing its good faith estimate of what the University reasonably expects to pay for a position. The pay offered to a selected candidate will be determined based on factors such as (but not limited to) the scope and responsibilities of the position, the qualifications of the selected candidate, departmental budget availability, internal equity, geographic location, and external market pay for comparable jobs. The pay range for this position working in the California Bay area is $99,015.00- $126,383.00 annually.
