We are seeking a Bioinformatics Scientist to support the National Institutes of Health's (NIH), world renowned National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases (NIAID) in Bethesda, MD. Responsibilities

  • Perform bioinformatic support using standard computer software packages for data management including data checking and cleaning of genotype and phenotype data, merging data, creating and recoding variables to prepare data for analyses, analyzing omics (DNA and RNA) data using a variety of standard statistical techniques including classical regression and statistical genetics tools.
  • Generate scripts in R to manage and analyze the data.
  • Provide support using RNASeq and methylation and assist with implementing existing and developing new analysis pipelines.
  • Communicate and assist the Federal Task Leader with the concepts, methodologies, and overall goals, conducts searches to locate the most relevant literatures pertinent to the project(s) to keep the knowledge up to date.
  • Analyze results and quality control of experiments to determine data generated is accurate and valid. Compare results with those obtained from previous related studies to verify the validity of data, and able to prioritize tasks and troubleshot data discrepancy.
  • Discuss the data results with the Federal Task Leader and other team members.
  • Develop methods, analysis, organize and record experimental data in a form suitable for reports and publication and future reference by others.
  • Maintains complete, detailed records of all experiments performed.
  • Provide support and validate and manage transcriptomic datasets; statistically analyze transcriptomic data; and create predictive models for on-going research projects.
  • Perform analyses using existing laboratory pipelines and summarize the results in a digestible manner and reports and deliver the information using established reporting procedures.


Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree and a minimum of two years of work experience in genetic epidemiology or bioinformatics.
  • Proficiency in at least one major statistical analysis software package (e.g., SAS, or R)
  • Experience with computational cluster environments.
  • Microsoft Office software required.
  • Programming skills in R required.
  • Excellent organizational, communication and writing skills required.
  • Candidate must be detail oriented and able to work independently on assigned tasks.
  • Bioinformatics experience is preferred.
  • Prior experience in genomics analysis and understanding of translational interpretation is preferred.
  • Candidates with expertise or interest in Genetic Epidemiology and/or the specific disease outcomes research are preferred.
