The Assistant Clinical Director, under the general supervision of the Clinical director, is responsible for the clinical and technical operations, quality, safety, compliance, and Human Resources for the department of Radiology Diagnostic Radiography division. The ACD oversees approximately 100 full time equivalents and has fiscal responsibility for annual operating expenses of area(s) of oversight.

Human Resource Management-

- Participates in new hire interviews

- In conjunction with the Diagnostic QA manager/educator oversees:

o New employee departmental orientation

o Preceptor-ship of new technologists

- Supervises clinical managers and educators within area(s) of oversight

- In conjunction with the clinical director, provides corrective action (as needed)

- Assigns work, evaluates performance and ensures on-going competency based and required training

- Ensures proper quality and quantity of work done by unit members

- Oversees the preparation and implementation of work schedules and project plans, including but not limited too;

o Daily work assignments to ensure coverage for 24/7 operations

o Back-up / Emergency coverage schedules

o Holiday coverage schedules

o On-Call schedules

- Oversees the approval of staff time off, ensuring adequate staffing at all times

- Completes payroll functions

- Performs performance evaluation of all technical and non-technical employees (as assigned); recommends salary adjustment, recognition and where appropriate disciplinary action

- Responsible for professional development of staff

Business Development -

- Functions as a liaison between physicians and internal referring department staff, to promote:

o Patient and family satisfaction

o Department growth

o Referring physician satisfaction

- Ensures that all information regarding procedural or operational changes are communicated to appropriate Department and Hospital personnel.

Operations Management -

- Develops, monitors and maintains operational workflows to promote efficient and safe patient throughput

- Develops, monitors and maintains resource scheduling templates to ensure adequate patient access

- Perform daily rounds to proactively manage potential operational issues or address ongoing issues

- Oversees supply management to ensure proper supply inventory and availability

Financial Management -

- Facilitates effective cost containment practices through:

o Monitoring volume trends

o Capacity management (physical and human resource)

o Supply management

o Institutional cost savings initiatives

- Efficient Revenue Cycle practices:

o Monitors timely/accurate exam completion/tracking

o Billing corrections

o Monitors and resolves "C" list exams for areas of oversight

Quality and Safety -

- Ensures that all Department, Hospital, and Regulatory guidelines are met (i.e. Joint Commission, CMS, DPH, ACR and all others that may apply)

- Ensures all department and hospital policies and procedures are adhered to by all staff

- Participates in Collaborative Case Reviews (CCRs) as requested

- Participates on departmental, hospital and modality committees (i.e. Contrast administration, Radiation safety, Patient experience, and others as assigned)

Technical Management -

- Ensures proper functioning of all equipment

- Coordinates all preventative maintenance, physicist testing, software upgrades and all other equipment related service

- Protocol development and improvement

- Perform daily rounds to proactively manage potential technical issues or update on ongoing issues

Analytics and Reporting -

Including but not limited to:

- Daily/Weekly/Monthly/Yearly exam volume

- Daily/Weekly FTE usage and variance

- Monthly budget variance

- Physician referrals

Works in a clinical capacity (i.e. technologist, tech aide, MA, etc) as needed

Participates in Radiology Administrator on-call rotation

Attends meetings on behalf of Clinical Director when needed

Qualifications

  • Must be a graduate of an approved school of Radiologic technology; possess (or be eligible to obtain) a current Massachusetts State Radiologic Technologist license and be registered by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) or equivalent
  • 7-10 years progressive experience as a Technologist, preferred
  • 3-5 years of supervisory experience required
  • Bachelor's degree required
  • Master's level degree within the health sciences/business/management field, is preferred; if not already obtained it is strongly encouraged to pursue
