Adjunct Professor of Latin American History

About Fairfield University:

Fairfield University is a comprehensive Jesuit institution that prepares students for leadership and service in a constantly changing world. Founded in 1942 on North Benson Road in Fairfield, Connecticut, the University has grown from an initial class of 303 undergraduate male students admitted to the College of Arts and Sciences in 1947 into a coeducational university of more than 5,000 undergraduate and graduate students. Along the way, the University has awarded more than 45,000 degrees since 1951, and has developed a reputation for educational excellence both regionally and nationally.

Job Description:

The Fairfield University History Department seeks a replacement instructor to teach two sections of "Colonial Latin America" for the fall 2024 semester. The class time is fixed and meets on Mondays and Thursdays from 9:30 to 10:45 (Section I) and from 11 to 12:15 (Section II). The course introduces students to the colonial origins of Latin America and the multiple ways that they have shaped the region's social and economic development. The class begins with the pre-contact worlds of the Americas, Africa and Europe, and then moves from the fifteenth-century conquest through the early nineteenth-century wars of independence.

Requirements:

Successful applicants should have either the Ph.D. in hand or all Ph.D. coursework completed. Teaching experience, including course design, preferred.

Fairfield University is an Equal Opportunity/Affirmative Action employer, committed to excellence through diversity, and, in this spirit, particularly welcomes applications from women, persons of color, veterans, Jesuits, and members of historically underrepresented groups. The University will provide reasonable accommodations to all qualified individuals with disabilities.

Application Instructions:

Please send a c.v., letter of application, and 3 references to both Patricia Behre, Chair, Fairfield History Department, (pbehre@fairfield.edu); and Jennifer Carolan, Senior Program Coordinator, (jcarolan@fairfield.edu).  Applications will be considered on a rolling basis and the position filled as soon as possible.
